Well, I really destroyed my Landpride FDR2584 Finish Mower last weekend. I was trying to get at the lawn/weeds in one of the few dry moments we've had this Michigan spring, and swung too wide with the mower. I ran over an 8" rock hidden in the clover (must have rolled down the hill over the winter), and blew out the hub for the center spindle and bent a blade to 90 degrees.

I had been thinking about getting a new set of blades anyway, but after looking through the Landpride Parts Manual I see there is an option for high-lift blades. Apparently, they were standard on the FDR2584 when it initially came out, but a couple years ago they switched to the medium-lift as standard.

I know that high-lift blades are supposed to "lift" the grass to allow for cutting. Are there any other pros, cons or experiences you can relate regarding medium lift vs. high lift blades on a rear discharge finish mower?

Pros

Generally gives better cut

Cons

Needs slightly more HP

Not recommended in really sandy soil (Like Florida) because blades suck up sand and dull quickly

High Lift Blades provide more suction for a clean cut....If your cut quality is satisfactory using the med/standard blade...keep using the med/standard...they will last longer and there will be less of a dust storm behind your mower when cutting in dry conditions...

I have a NH side discharge finish mower.. the high lift blades really blow the clippings out.. up to 20 feet.

Where can one get these highlift blades, I thought blades were blades. I have a pine tree that covers my yard with pine needles, which my old Craftsman mower used to lift and mulch til they disappeared, but my new Craftsman won't touch them. Have tried speeding up slghtly to no avail.

Wondering how they are disappearing. That old mower was particulazing the pine needles? OR, "disappear" here means the cut grass were being discharged far away?

As we all know, Nomad, matter doesn't really disappear, it merely takes on another form. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I use the RFM (side discharge) for blowing leaves in the Fall. Even the hi-lift blades left something to be desired. I welded small tabs on the blade tips, and that made a huge improvement......................chim

According to my dealer, they DO make 'em for a 60"MMM for the B Series... if that's what you're talkin' 'bout.
