So many choices out there. I've got a 45 horse tractor. Looking for a 3ph backhoe. I'm not looking for a subframe mount. This will not get much heavy use. If I need to do that, I'll rent a mini-excavator, on which I have lots of experience.

I've got my eyes on a WoodMaxx. They seem well-constructed, and I appreciate the veterans discount and free shipping. I'm also looking at the Titan, and something just labled TMG215, about which I can find nothing, but they are cheap.

Anybody have any experience with any of these? I'd like to be able to excavate into my small dump, so I need something that can lift around 6 ft.

Thanks

If you have a lot of experience with mini excavators, prepare to be under-whelmed by a 3pt backhoe's performance.

I've had Woods and Bush Hog 3 pt units and they worked fine and were reliable. Parts were also readily available. I'd be inclined to look for a used brand name unit. Woods and Bush Hog aren't going anywhere as far as I know.

Get ready to hear lots of horror stories about breaking your tractor in half with the 3 pt hoe. I had no such issues, but always operated with caution.

I have the Woodmaxx WM8600 on a Massey Ferguson 30B and this unit will do anything I have asked of it. In E TX where I use it is a lot of hard and sticky clay and it will dig like crazy. I did have an issue when my unit was delivered but 1 call to their customer service and they shipped a replacement part out to me next day air. I cant say enough about the value Woodmaxx offers and the level of customer service, no I don’t have any ties to the company, just a happy customer.

If not using it much, consider renting an excavator instead, your tractor will be happier and your work will be done much, much faster. I once borrowed the 3-point type from the neighbor, it dug 7 feet deep max but after digging a few short ditches for water lines plus removing several tree stumps I bought the frame mount unit and it's been on that tractor for 35 years...Of course everyone's needs are not the same, however I would surely try one out and for several hours too before buying. If not hurried at all, plus digging straight lines with minimum swing, you can get the ditch dug ok but if doing lots of swinging motion it is frustrating plus they joust the tractor back and forth which can't be good with all that weight on your 3 point. Frame mount keeps things rigid while spreading out the added weight rather than all the looseness one gets in the 3-point but then the 3-point units can be removed easily and frame mounts are not so easy, a plus for you maybe. It boils down to how often and what its used for and in the end cost as well. Today's units are surely better than the one I tried. Can't recall it's maker but it was orange in color. Blackhawk maybe; for sure not Kubota back then? Maybe...Just my .02cents worth.
