I've been doing a lot of research on here about the piranha tooth bar as it seems to be a popular and impressive attachment for a lot of digging scenarios. However, one thing that I didn't see was anything on digging into a slate bank. That is one area that my straight edge bucket struggled with recently, and a buddy's Kubota with a standard tooth bar seems to tear into it pretty well. The Piranha tooth bar seems to work very well in almost any digging video or review that I've seen, and I would like it for clearing brush type work also, but I'm really curious how it would do with getting into a slate bank. I'm talking about once the loose stuff is already off, and you need to dig in and break it up to get more. I am leaning towards the Piranha bar over a standard tooth bar, but this issue may be a decision maker. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I have a Mahindra Max 26XL and my buddy has a Kubota which I believe is a BX26, so they are comparable for the workload we were in to.

I'd be a little concerned that you should be using (renting) equipment designed & intended to rip apart a shale bank.
Sorry for the "buzz kill", but neither your tractor or mine were designed for that service. I've done my share of abusing/damaging equipment using it in the wrong application and I'm just trying to benefit you from my similar stupid mistakes:thumbsup:

LOL. Yeah, I told my buddy that's what he needed cuz I wasn't gonna beat up my little tractor to do it. But he said the Kubota dug into it pretty well with the tooth bar.

The "exposed layer" will dig well with a tooth bar.
That is only a couple inches,, then you are dealing with "un-exposed" material.
The un-exposed will need more assistance than a tooth bar,,,

Can't speak directly about the slate digging.....I can tell you I have done some shallow digging in some pretty tough clay soil......the Piranha did fine. As for brush clearing.......that bar does well with blackberries and small samplings.....I have cleared several acres. The product is well made......I never remove it from my bucket.

If I get into the tooth bar it will most likely be the Piranha bar over a standard tooth bar. It just seems to be more versatile for things that I may get in to. I guess I'll have to figure something out if we get into the slate again. I'm not one to abuse my equipment and want to make it last.

Thanks folks!
