Land Pride RFM

Well, a couple days ago I mentioned that I was going to possibly try a 6 foot King Kutter finish mower to use behind my TC29D. Well, after some more investigation, I found a local dealer that carries Land Pride. Apparently, Land Pride carries 2 lines of finish mowers... a light duty and a heavy duty. Well anyways, all this dealer had in stock for me to look at was the heavy duty one. I must say I was VERY impressed with the way this thing was built, and the service manager at the shop was really talking it up. The unit sells for 1,800.00. I am really leaning towards this one. For those who know, how do you think this unit stacks up against the King Kutter? Thanks!

I don't know the Land Pride line but I have looked at the KK at TSC and visually compared it to my Woods RD6000: there really isn't a comparrison. The woods is a tank, very heavy duty (650 lbs) and based on it's condition on it's 3rd season I expect it to last a lifetime with care. I also contibute it's shear mass to the excellent cut quality I get. Might just be a "Tim Taylor" 'ism but that's my impression.

I have a 6 foot King Kutter finish mower. It does alright & the grass looks nice, but the quality is not the best. The metal can & will bend easily. The belts are not easy to change either. One of the belts broke already & I have only used it one season. Had to do over again, I would not be buying a King Kutter.

I have used a Landpride 5 foot rear discharge finish mower RD 2560 for about 2 years. It leaves a very clean cut and has been trouble-free. They come with medium lift blades which suck up the grass really well for a well manicured look. I paid about $1,800 and am very pleased with it. Hookup is easy. I did get the optional front anti-scalp roller.

I own a Landpride fdr 1660 rfm, this is the light weight unit. I will tell you that this light weight unit is also built like a tank. It weighs in at about 600# and all the metal is heavy steel, it cuts my three acres of lawn very well and leaves a manicured lawn.

I've used a FDR 2584 (rear discharge) for the past two years. It was $2200 new. I've really abused it, using it to cut paths in pasture. The T-post I hit just stopped it cold, but the 8" rock that must have rolled down the hill and hid in the clover blew out one of the spindle hubs. My fault - replaced the hub for $65. Put new blades on (I feel safe doing that now since the first set found all the rocks) and the mower does a beautiful job. This mower is built to last.

No experience with King Kutter, but I love my LandPride.

I picked up a Land Pride FDR 1660 Rear Discharge Finish Mower this spring.

So far so good.

We have very sandy soils so I go the heavy duty low lift blades. Even with the low lift blades it gives a nice cut. Not sure if this is the heavy or light duty unit, but the way it looks to be built I expect it will be the last one I have to buy.

I think I have found all the rocks, including one that I needed the FEL to lift. Hope to get by with a little sharpening and maybe straightening of the blades before the next mowing.

I have a Landpride 1660 I use with my 7500, both bought last spring. The Landpride cuts and is built very well. I use it mostly on the 3 acres of "field" I have. Sometimes when I want a fast cut I use it on the 1 acre manicured St. Augustine grass around the house and it gives a beautiful cut. I paid $1595 for the Landpride.

I have owned several Land Products over the years. Typically they come in series 15(16) , 25, and 35 with 15 being the lighter duty and 35 being the heavier duty.

Of the current mowers.
FDR16 Series 15-30 HP 48", 60", 72"
  FDR25 Series 15-45 HP 48", 60", 72", 84"
  FDR35 Series 25-60 HP 90"

I have always found the LandPride products to be of good quality.

I have a Landpride 72" AT2572 side discharge. I just replaced it yesterday with a First Choice 84" rear discharge. There is no comparison: the First Choice is INCREDIBLY heavy duty - heavier deck, spindles, gearbox, wheels, covers, A-frame, and arm assembly. I don't know what the 72" version costs, but Ken Sweet at Sweet Tractor had the 84" for $1499 (+ $165 freight, but less $67 sales tax.) I have looked at the KK stuff and found it lacking compared to Landpride and First Choice, but at least it is cheap to buy. There is a higher-end KK line, but I have never looked at it.
