It all depends on your wallet; if you have a mid point PTO you can purchase a unit from Pronovost.
If not you need to purchase a complete kit from Shulte to run an attachment that requires a 540 PTO speed from the rear PTO with a set of reversing gears in a gearbox or a chain drive reverser that drops down from the PTO stub to the PTO shaft that is the full length of the sub frame under the mule to a point where the front gear box is on the sub frame which also allows the three point hitch to be attached on the sub frame.

There are also several european builders of front mount PTO and three point hitch systems that are powered from the front crank shaft.

The hydraulics are either a pair of hoses from the rear hose connections or a front loader mounting system that can be removed which also has quick couplers.

The other issue is whether your front axle can handle the weight which is the largest factor in this.

All good info from LEONZ. With regard to the FrontLink, powered by the crank shaft, the drive speed is usually limited to 1000 RPM. However, recently I did read that 540 RPM is now available. I have seen several quotes in recent ads where the cost of the linkage and the crank driven PTO for a medium range utility tractor is about $14,000. +/-
Hydraulic lines, as noted must be routed to the front for auxiliary power (remote) such as hyd top link or if implement has a hyd function such as side shift or wheel lift.

The advantage is that the rear linkage and PTO is available for an additional implement if the tractor has the HP to operate both simultaneously. I have chosen a more cost effective solution. Just built a hydraulic power unit which will be 3 point mounted. It will drive a finish mower quick attached to the front FEL. Depends on the front implement you intend to employ.? The mower only requires 28 HP to operate. The hydraulic unit is capable of producing about 40+ hp. I have the option to power a snow blower in the future. If you have a quick attach FEL, the existing loader valve can provide hyd power for the linkage and additional remote. None of my intended uses will exceed lift capacity of FEL or front axle load rating. I do not like the under slung front drive PTO options as the ground clearance of the tractor is compromised, especially with turf or R-4 tires. Fine for flat surfaces, expect difficulty negotiating a ditch. In haying operations, front disc mower is great, but an under slung unit would cut into the windrow and make a mess. Tell us about your intentions and proposed implements for a front PTO application?

EDIT: Significant investment for an older tractor, not being critical, just thinking resale? Is it M4WD? CAB? how many operating hours? I would check if a purchased unit could be removed upon sale or trade, and installed on a different tractor? Modification, adaptation to another, stay w/ Case and the Cummins engine.?
