I have this rotary cutter that I got with a Massey 135. Can you help me figure out what model it is and what the hp requirement and weight is? I’m getting a L2501 and want to know if it can run it. It seems to be 5 foot but feels very heavy.

It looks like it says"Bush-Hog" on the side;a light duty version with a shear pin;an L2501 should run it(looks like a five footer).

The model is likely SQ-60, not 5060 as listed in the ad. The nameplate picture shows SQ-60. You might find a manual online somewhere or contact Bush Hog.

The rule of thumb is 5 HP per foot of cutter. Thus a 5 foot bush hog requires 25 HP.

Thanks! I’ll give it a shot once I get the new tractor. Worst case, I use one of the 4 ft ones.

That does look very similar! I wonder if mine has the braces welded on after the fact. Any idea on the weight or hp requirement? I have this one and access to two 4’ foots. I’d rather run this one since it’s already here.

Yes, it's a Bush Hog Squealer SQ-60, their lighter duty model. The braces are not original. I came with a chain link like the one in the photos kirkawilson provided links for. Bush Hog recommended 25 to 40 HP, and says it has a 55 HP gearbox, 60-in. cut and weighs 485 lb. It's a very sound unit as long as you don't try to use it for cutting down trees. Mine is 20 years old and still going strong.

Seems like the L2501 should run that. Thank you all for your input!

Before connecting the PTO shaft to your tractor, lift it on your 3pt and see if you can rotated the assembly by hand. If you can that's good.

Change the oil in the gearbox, inspect the blades, replace the sheer pin, grease every nipple you can find, and maybe change that rear tire and you should be good to go.
