The \'BEST\' Backhoe

I'm almost afraid to ask this question, because there indeed may be no real 'right' answer, but here goes. I bought a 2710 this fall and now that tax time is over I want a backhoe. I realize that I can't have a CAT backhoe, but maybe a WOODS 7500 type/size would be appropriate. I have read posts about BRADCO, read the Kubota literature about the 4672, and have read endless debate about 3PH VS subframe. I am inclined to spend a little extra now and get a subframe attached model, rather than be disappointed in the future. I saw a BUSH HOG 672 ?(I think) and was NOT impressed with the size or features. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif It looked like the pivots didn't have replaceable bushings and looked like the reach was quite small./w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif I don't want to 'dog' anybody's purchased equipment, but would like to find something good for the money.

I need to dig a trench for a trailer that I'm installing, fix up the footing in my barn, remove small trees, and maybe fix up the septic system when the time comes. Anybody out there have something that are very happy with, and thought was a good value, anything out there to stay away from ? As usual I appreciated all who take time to share their experiances with ALL of US /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

Jason, I have a Kubota B4690 backhoe that I use on a L2650. It will handle every thing that you state for your work with ease... I am very happy with what it can do... I have worked it hard the last couple of months digging out small trees on a old fence line around the house. Can not wait to take it off in about another week and check the wear on the connections... (still have a small foundation job to do the end of this week or next).

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

I haven't seen the 4672 up close although I have heard good things about it. Have you had any concerns about the 3 PH attachment. Are there any indications of problems or excessive stress on the 3PH. Are the Bushings replaceable in the joints? Do you have a separate PTO pump or did you hook it up to the tractor hydraulics? Thanks for the info, if I may ask, how much was the 4672, and why didn't you get a woods/bradco instead.

Thanks
Jason

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

I just traded my L3600 with a Woods BH7500, 3PH mount. good backhoe but i was looking for more depth & more power for commercial work (went to L48) I would compare the Kubota specs with the Woods & go with the unit that has more power

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

Thanks, when you mean more power, what are the numbers that I should be interested in. Did you ever have any problem with the 3PH Mount VS a subframe mount ?

Thanks

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

FYI - the correct BH for the 2710 is the 4690, not the 4672. It's more powerful and has a 7 1/2 foot digging depth rasther than 6 1/2 feet.

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

Power = digging force
Woods 7500: Dipperstick = 1800 pounds, Bucket = 2600 pounds. I would look for something with +/- 4000 pounds bucket force

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

If price and weight are not a problem. Go with a Bradco frame mount. Bradco's are built to commercial standards, but they are heavy and may be overbuilt for what you need.

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

Jason. If you would like, you can email me, and I will tell you all I know.... My B4690 came on the tractor when I bought it used... It has a PTO driven pump... The only problem I have had is with the set screw that holds the PTO spline adaptor to the pump. It has lossened up a time or two and let the pump slide off the shaft... It could not go any where not enough room to. The backhoe is a good one and should take care of all you have to do... I know several plant nuseraries that use this same set up.. It is a very good price wise if you do not do heavy or a lot of hard commerical work... If you are going to do a lot of backhoe work and need to do it fast the a L35 or a larger commerical unit is in order... But for misc. work around you frarm or house it is great.... On a 3pt make sure that you have the required reinforceing top link bracket for your tractor. I have looked at other brand add-on 3pt BH and none has the look or feel of the Kubota... Woods or Barco both should be very good..

Re: The \'BEST\' Backhoe

While the 4690 does have a longer reach, the 4690 and the 4672 both have the same power. They each have 2950 lbs bucket digging force and 1740 lbs dipperstick digging force.
