New or Used Rotary Cutter for SCUT

My wife and I are in the market for a rotary cutter. I have never run a rotary cutter. We have a LS MT125 SCUT that we are using to prepare a horse pasture. We have 7 acres of creek and woods, but currently are only working on about 2 acres that were cleared of everything under 4 inches by a skid steer with a rotary cutter. The picture above is what we are working with. Some of those trees will be going, but we are keeping a number around. We have lots of honeysuckle that we will be cutting and clearing as we can. The rotary cutter is needed for keeping down the honeysuckle that is sprouting back in what we cleared and for keeping short horse trails through the woods clear in the future. because of the size of our machine and the obstacles I think we need a 4 foot instead of a 5 foot. I am in the suburbs and there are some used 5 foot cutters in a 2 hour drive from us but used 4 foot cutters are few and far between.

I found this nice SQ148 that is 3 hours away for what seems like a good price ($875). What would be the difference between that and the Everything Attachments XTreme 48 Inch Compact Rotary Brush Cutter or a CountryLine Rotary Cutter 4 ft. from Tractor Supply? For a SCUT with 17 HP on the PTO I am running these units at the low end of their PTO range. I think they all have shear pins.

The Bushog is a fine mower. Not going to do much better. The E.A. mower is superior to the countryline by a good margin.

I think you're correct to stick with a 4ft rotary cutter. A 5ft is going to tax your scut with its weight and horsepower requirements. Look at the sizes of the gear boxes on the units and the gauge of sheet metal used in their construction. Buy the tougher mower.

Bush Hog and EA both make excellent products. Not sure but I think Countyline might be made in China. I have a Bush Hog SQ160 that has been excellent. Only issue I had was when I backed it into a stump, my fault. If you can, get front and rear chains on the rotary cutter. Mine has a metal band on the back which is prone to getting bent when backed into things.

I called the dealer I bought my tractor from. They carry Titan cutters that look pretty good to me. I am picking up a 1204 4' rotary cutter on Monday. He doesn't stock the chains, so they will come in with the next shipment from Titan.

My neighbor bought a Titan last year. It is impressive for the money.

Picked it up today! I have not used it yet, but I am pretty sure it is the size I want. Made in the USA with a 5 year warranty on the gearbox.

My guess is that the Titan is probably heavier built than the others you mentioned. Should serve you well.

I am curious about the the weight difference. The Everything Attachments one is 345 lbs with 10 gauge steel. The Titan is 538 lbs with 11 gauge steel.

I might rewatch this video made by Tim of his cutting behind a JD 1025R before I go out. Right now I have to wait until the ground dries as this rain has really made the ground soft here.
