Hi Everyone,
I have been trying without success to find the specs on a couple of John Deere FEL buckets. I can calculate the volume myself, but I am looking for something semi-official that I can show to the skeptics who think I am shorting them on volume. The buckets are the BW15545 and BW15544, both are 85" wide buckets. I have searched the JD site fairly carefully and can't find anything. That seemed a bit weird, but anyway. Even If I "build" a loader or tractor on their site, it will only give me widths and names such as heavy duty bucket, or materials bucket, etc. BTW this is on a JD 5075E with a 533 loader. Thanks in advance!

If people are that fussy, just tell them to go elsewhere. Even if you get a spec, is that struck or heaped? Are you going to level off every bucket full EXACTLY the same? It's all a bit ridiculous.

That's what I did. I was selling top soil for $5 per heaped bucket. After loading his dump trailer about 1/4 full, this guy starts telling me that the last bucket wasn't heaped as tall as it could be. I shut the tractor off and told the guy I wasn't going to argue over $5, that bucket was free and we are done here.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I have been doing this for 40 years at my well established greenhouse/garden center/nursery/landscape supply business. I am not afraid to fire acustomer at all. Nor am I skimpy with the volume I sell. That's my stichk, charge a healthy price and give 'em a bit extra. My desire for this info is really more of a na na na to those very few customers, to make me happy. Maybe that makes me a bad person, but that's why. Thanks!

Then why not just measure it and post the math if a customer wants to see it?

I do believe that many loader manufacturers round their numbers off to cubic yard/meters or 1/2 or 1/3 or 1/4. Like I said, between struck or heaped it's not a measurement intended for retail sales purposes anyway.

I guess if I was paying a "Healthy Price" I'd want ever last morsel too! Hey, what's with those pieces of roots in there? What are you trying to pull here? lol

Other manufacturers do typically list the struck and heaped volume of their different buckets. For example:

Kubota:
Standard
Capacity - struck 12.7 cu. ft. (0.36 m³)
Capacity - heaped 16.0 cu. ft. (0.45 m³)

New Holland:
Euro Style - 83" 24 cu. ft. Standard Material Bucket
0.72 yd struck capacity, 0.89 yd heaped capacity

As we all know, "heaped" can mean a lot of things, depending on whether you are buying or selling. The angles of repose certainly vary from material to material as well. Moisture content will dramatically alter heaped volume. All I was trying to do was to get the manufacturers stated struck volume. In my state we have a "Sealer of Weights and Measures" They are the ones going around and checking the gas pumps and deli scales to be sure that they are accurate. Here they go by the manufacturers rating for bucket capacity. Please remember that Massachsetts has never, ever said no to yet another way to regulate. We can't even sell a cord of wood. The word is prohibited. It has to be sold as 128 cubic feet. (Yes this state drives me nuts!) So while it does have no actual relevance to the real world because the heap is the determining factor, it really is used in retail.

Sometimes one part of the load is heaped and some of the bucket is void in other spots. It takes far too much effort, wear, tear and fuel to get a perfect bucket load every time.

I acquired these docs a few years ago, maybe not exactly what your looking for but may be helpful.

Thanks Kenny! At least I know that JD has published volumes in the past for some of their buckets. I appreciate it. BTW I love your hooks. I haven't needed any but next time I do, you are my go-to guy.
