Yep, LarryT, that hydraulic top link is great. Makes it nice when you go to clean under the deck, too, whether with the air blow gun or water.

Bird- Thanks for the heads up! For the SQ600 that bolt head is a 1-11/16" and needs to be torqued to 450 ft/lbs. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif!! And yes, there's still an access hole in the deck.
These blades were quite "dull" before I ever cut anything and I assumed it was because a fine edge would just dull or bend very quickly when cutting brush. But the shredding, shattering action is probably just as important, maybe even more so. Based on this discussion I probably won't worry anytime soon about removing OR sharpening the blades. So far, I'm not experiencing any problems.
FWIW- Some of the reasons I chose the Bush Hog over the comparable light/standard duty cutters from Land Pride (same price as the Bush Hog from the same dealer) and Woods (couldn't find any in stock to look at). The Bush Hog weighed a little less but still has an 11 guage deck and has 1/2" thick blades. I think the other cutters use 3/8" blades. Since I knew I'd be cutting some pretty thick brush and I was exceeding both the size and weight recommendations from Kubota this seems like the best "fit" for my situation.

Harbor Freight sells a 600 lb-ft torque wrench at the best price I could find. It is 4 ft long or so. Click type. I needed 450 lb-ft for the lug nuts on my 19.5 wheels I put on my Dodge/Cummins Ram 3500. This is a serious tool. I named mine Excalibur! I expect it to find uses around my new tractor (L4610 with cab) with brush hog blades etc.

Larry, the only torque wrench that meets those specs that I find in my Northern catalog is Item# 150228-C156, priced at $159.99. Looks like it's made by Sunex Tools, so it's probably worth the price.

I have not purchased anything from these people, but they have a large socket set (3/4" and 1" drive) at a decent price ($119.00). For occasional use, they might be worth the money just to have around. When I recently bought two Craftsman sockets and a 18" bar from Sears, I spent half that much for just those three.
Washburns also sells 12 volt DC hydraulic powerpacks and many other products for the farm.

You might also look at JCWHITNEY.COM, they list the 3/4 set at 59 or 69 I believe. Harbor Freight usually has decent prices also.

My JD service manager showed me his, ... gearbox-with-handle sort of thing that connects between the torque-wrench and the bolt (like a socket-extension) and multiplies the force required for a given reading by a fixed ratio (in this case 4:1). this would make a Craftsman 250ft/# torque wrench the equivalent of a 1000ft/# wrench.
If the money is near-the-same, maybe a better way to go than just a larger fixed-range wrench!? I know that some of the torque ratings I have seen in spec. litereature are higher than 600ft/#.
Anybody got experience/opinions?

Larry, did he show you a 1/2" or 3/4" drive torque multiplier. The ones in my Matco catalog are 1/2" input and 3/4" output or 3/4" input and 1" output. All are 4:1 ratio. The 1/2" input model (TM750) for 1000 ft.lbs. retails for $386.50. The 3/4" input models (TM1000 and TM1000R) for 2000 ft.lbs. retail for $558.35 and $644.20 respectively. The TM1000R, anti-backlash model is supposed to be "especially useful where fastening system has spring-back condition or where an extended reaction bar is used." And to answer your question, I've never personally used one, but I understand they do work well and my brother sells them. And of course, you can probably find other brands locally for less money, but like the regular torque wrenches, they ain't cheap./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
