New gearbox for SQ720?

Well, after almost 20 years of faithful service, the output shaft on my SQ720 sheered when I hit a small stump.

Is there any economical replacements available, other than the $600 OEM replacement?

The blades have also worn the steel through on the stump jumper around the blade bolts. So maybe it's time to put it out to pasture? The mowerdeck itself is still in quite good condition for it's age.

Do you know what the gear ratio is on your existing gear box? Have you tried searching by the OEM part number to see if any substitutes pop up? I believe the majority of gear boxes manufactured over seas so not sure how the quality compares from brand A to brand B.

Is there an ID tag or numbers on the gearbox? If there is, chances are Google can get a parts breakdown, and then a part number. Might have to work backwards from the tag on the deck. For the wallowed out holes, weld a large washer over the area to bring it back to spec.

You should be able to get a replacement shaft, and a replacement weld on pan if you choose. Should be a number or I.D tag on the gearbox , once you know the gear box info you can find a replacement that matches as stated above.

Parts should be available from Bush Hog. Replacing the entire box isn稚 your only option.
