Anyone had any experience with Goossen chippers made by Harper Industries? (or any other experience with their stuff - they make bale shredders and other similar type stuff)???

I have a Bush Hog chipper-shredder made by Goossen. If you do a search for Goossen, you will find plenty of info relating the two machines. There is a Kubota dealer, Art, on TBN who sells the blue Goossen machines. Bush Hog has discontinued their chipper-shredder line, so Goossen is my only source for parts. Luckily, nothing has ever broken. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks. I found a thread (from Nov 03) discussing chipper/shredders. I think you did some posts to it. The Goossen is the same as Bush Hog as you said. Also, the Woods 5000 and Bearcat 70554 same. Goossen was the manufacturer for Bush Hog (or so it seems), and they make other equipment (such as hay shredder/blowers), so, maybe they will stay around. I had a Troybuilt 10hp Tomahawk, but Troybuilt sold out and Murray discontinued support - had to have blades machined because no parts. The Goossen looks a little more heavy duty (weighs 120 lbs more) with a hair more capacity than the Bearcat/Woods. Also, there was some discussion of the Wallenstein. There's more chippers out there than I realized!

Since you said you havn't needed any parts, guess you've had good luck with it. Any thoughts on how it works? Have you used it much? Do you use the shredder much, or mostly just the chipper? Does it feed well? (I have used rented Vermeers, and those things suck up about anything, would hope this size would be somewhere between my old Tomahawk and the larger rental units).

Good reliable stuff! Performs over all the competition I've come across.

The chipper works great on freshly cut cedar. I've done a "ton" of that. It also does well with green oak, but I've never had the nerve to feed in any blackjack oak. That stuff is so hard it makes a chainsaw spark.

The shredder is really a hoot to use. When you put something into it, don't have a really tight grip because it will be gone in a flash and you don't want to go in with it. For small limbs, vines, and brush, the shredder is a joy to use.

I also like that the unit is easy to disassemble and grease. I just wish I could configure it to sit on a small trailer and run off of a small gas engine. ...maybe a future project. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
