WHile my B2150 is oin the shop I was considering buying a Hopper Spreader and have them attach before they re-deliver my tractor home. The Kubota dealer here recommends a Landpride unit that holds about 500 Lbs.

Does anyone have any experience with the Landpride Hopper Spreader or any other that they can share?

Thanks for your comments.... Tim

Tim, I have never had a Landpride unit but I have had one of the Tractor Supply spreaders for several years which I would guess is not as well made as the Landpride one. I use mine to spread grass seed and fertilizer and it works great. You can control the throw (left, right or center) and the handle for flow control can be reached from the operator's seat. A real handy implement to have around if you sow much grass or fertilize much.
Remember, the quickest way to ruin any spreader is to not wash it out good after spreading fertilizer. Even if stored indoors, it will quickly eat the bottom out and corrode all of the working parts. Trust me, I learned this lesson the hard way when I made the mistake of loaning mine to a friend who brought it back in about a month looking like the lower half had been dipped in acid. I always wash it out good and pour some motor oil on the working parts after using fertilizer and I have not had any problems.

I have one and use it quite alot. Scott is right though be sure and wash it out each time or it won't last very long at all. Also if you haven't spread fertilizer be very careful about overspreading, going over areas already fertilizied, which is easy to do with the hopper spreader. If you do you will burn your lawn, pasture, etc.

Hopper spreader? HOPPER SPREADER?? For what?

When I was back on the farm, the thing was to KEEP them FROM spreading. The darn things come in a cloud, and will eat the whole crop, lickety-split.

Besides, they can FLY, man! They spread THEMSELVES!!

I think you better take another look at this whole idea! (...don't understand these new-fangled methods!)

Hopper spreader! Gimme-a-break!

Very good, Huh?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif And we've had the clouds of them the last two years; hoping they're gone now.

Plus, I hear they go thru the spreader easily !!

Re: Hopper Spreader(are you even listening?)

GET RID OF THAT HOPPER-SPREADER, WHILE YOU'RE STILL IN ONE PIECE!!

You must've been extremely lucky, or you would already realize how DANGEROUS they are /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif !

A ROLLER-spreader is MUCH safer!

Those "hoppers" are just like a rodeo-bull, ...here's what happens;

The thing hops. If you aren't sitting just-right, you're thrown off-balance. You stomp the "go"-pedal as you try to brace yourself with your foot. You grab the steering wheel to hang-on, turning the front-wheels sideways. When the thing "lands", the tractor tries to take-off fast to the side, but your momentum is still movin' forward. Hello! ...ROLLOVER! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Beside the danger, and the laughing neighbors ("HA ha ha!, look! ..there goes 'Hopalong' again!"), ..can you say "INEFFICIENT"?

When at the top of a hop, whatever you're spreading is thrown out to a greater distance - when on the ground again, ...to a lesser one. Look behind you. Big circle/little circle/big circle/little circle, etc. Yeesh! ...what kind of pattern is that?

And the HOLES! My gosh, ..the HOLES! Everytime all-that-weight hits the ground and takes-off on a new "hop", ...4 deep HOLES. You KNOW any "real" farm-field should have nice smooth "furrows".

I guess we can't expect you to have any shame about the furrow-thing, though, if you're content to be seen with your head bobbing up-and-down like one of those dashboard hula-dancers. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Anyway, your luck isn't gonna hold forever. Think about it SOME MORE!

This whole hopper-spreader thing is a BAD IDEA!!

(HEY!, ..I'm jes TRYIN' a hep ya. PAY ATTENTION!) /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Re: Hopper Spreader(are you even listening?)

A roller-spreader ROLLS along the ground while spreading "stuff", ...instead of HOPPING along, like a hopper-spreader!

(Hey Mike, this is a joke, man! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif )

Huh?
