Could one of you kind folks post a pic or two of stands you've made . ?? Or at least explain to me how you store it when not mounted on your machine ? TIA , John

Re: There\'s got to be an easier way !!!

Here's a link PHD Stand to a previous thread that discusses this very topic. It also has some pics of stands that others have built.

Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh yeah - I found it in the Build It Youself forum. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: There\'s got to be an easier way !!!

Here is my thread describing a Stand for Post Hole Digger made from Pipe. It rolls easily, lets me hook up the digger without lifting the unit, and has had no problem "wracking" despite the lack of cross members. Best of all, I could assemble it despite being welder challenged.

Re: There\'s got to be an easier way !!!

I just leave mine laying on the ground. I connect the two lower links first, then I connect the PTO shaft, then I rotate it up and connect the top link last. It is sort of a pain, but I can usually get it by myself in a matter of a 2 or 3 minutes by doing it that way. I remove it in reverse sequence.

I will admit that it is easier to connect now that I use Pat's Easy change on the NH because the lower links just snap in. On the Kubota that has extendable lower links and it is almost as easy to use as the hooks on the Pat's system. In both cases, it is a lot easier when you are not dealing with the ball eyes of a rigid lower links.

I've seen some people hang their PHD by a strap from a tree or a hook and connect them up, which should work well on uneven ground. On a nice smooth concrete floor, a PHD stand that has wheels would be a nice thing.

Re: There\'s got to be an easier way !!!

I don't own one, but occasionally borrow from my neighbor!
His is stored against a fence post near his garden. Back up to the post and lower the PHD. Ties the top off against the top of the post with a rope. Disconnect from the tractor, etc. This seems to work surprisingly well for him (and me).

Re: There\'s got to be an easier way !!!

I just bought a PHD a month or so ago. When I bought it, it was laying on the barn floor. What a pain to hook up. When I unhooked it, I turned the PTO on, dug a hole, and disconnected right there. I looked at the link to DocHeb's thread and his stand. His PHD is identical to mine. At least it looks the same. Mine is an old Ford one I believe.

Bob, Glen and Chris . Thanks for the quick responses !
I believe I'm going to copy Chris's method . I can't weld worth a darn . As it'll be stored outside I wn't need wheels .
Can you believe I build pole buildings ,but don't have a garage/shop ??? I feel like a plumber that only has an out house /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif John

Re: There\'s got to be an easier way !!!

Nixon,

When I bought mine, I hauled it home on a trailer, then lifted it with a FEL, took it over to a tree, tied it to the tree, then backed up to it and connected to it. When I was through with it I just bored a hole, and left it there. Now its a piece of cake to connect to it, and use the same hole to store it.

I wish it were my idea, but the tractor dealer where I bought it made the suggestion.

Good Luck, Les

Re: There\'s got to be an easier way !!!

I hang mine in summer from a tree, using a piece of rope. In winter I hang it with a chain in my shed.
