Saw a Corriher 72" york rake today. I have been wanting to buy one but I haven't really needed it yet, and I have been hoping to find a cheap used one nearby. So when I saw the Corriher rake I had to stop. Being in New Hampshire you don't run into too much stuff from North Carolina and thought it would look good next to my Corriher box blade. Anyway, talk about sticker shock. $850 My jaw dropped. It was in very good condition but...

Gotta love tractoring in New England. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Transportation costs. I have heard that once you turn the corner at NYC, the cost of going North doubles... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Buy a Howse at Northern Tools for less than half that price. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If you want to build your own I have the entire section of a Land Pride 84" rake that holds the tines, including the pivot just sitting in the garage. It is complete except for the tines and hitch but it needs a little welding. If you have a Land Pride blade this will replace it or you can add the tines and build your own hitch.

A couple of Jacksons and it can be yours. PM me if interested.

Northwood Power Equipment has brand new Woods LR72 6' rakes for $575. The guide wheels are $225, you're out the door for $800. I bought one a few weeks ago.

You might also want to give a call up to Ken's Tractor and Truck up in Keene - they are a Kioti dealer but they have a pretty good selection of implements in stock. All of the Kioti implements I have seen are Midwest - same as the Corriher stuff. I just ended up buying a 60 inch 3 way adjustable rear blade from them last week because getting a Corriher blade was going to be pretty much the same price once I factored in shipping plus it is orange so it matches my Kubota. I am pretty sure he has rakes in stock too.

Same thing happens at farm sales I go to. People will pay more for used stuff than they can buy brand new for.

Same thing with the local heavy equipment auctions. In the last two or three months I've been going to auctions looking for a decent tractor. For half the sales, the auction prices are higher than what the equivalent machine can be had for as advertised used in the Equipment Trader. I've also watched those little Chinese scooters and mini bikes sell at auction, for hundreds more then they cost new out of the Bargain Trader. For example, a 49 cc Chinese made scooter, in the South Florida Bargain Trader, is advertised between $600 and $800 depending on model. Those same machines, at equipment auctions, sell for at least $1000, usually more. It's ridiculuous. It's like people think it must be cheaper just because they are at an auction. Granted, there have been some good deals I myself have missed. Like a 61" Scag walkbehind for $300 (needed deck spindles), and a Kubota B7100 for $650 (needed tires). I figured they would be expensive and they weren't what I was looking for, so I walked away and looked at something else. DOH!
