Land Pride makes two grades of finishing mowers. The FD2560 is the better 60" rear discharge. There's also a model (I think) FD1560 that is supposed to be lighter, but it's $400 cheaper. I figure Land Pride doesn't make junk, and their lighter one is probably better than any cheaper brand I could buy. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

Can't help you there, Rich. I've always gone for the 25 or 35 series LP implements and never been disappointed. I have the FDR2572 and it's a real beast! My land tends to be sorta tough on attachments.

I have a 2572 airtunnel. It does take a beating with showing it. look at the weights of the different mowers, the heaver the stronger they are, this goes of any brand of equipment. I mow alot of rough ground so I didn't think the lighter mower would take the beating as well. If I were mowing smooth ground then I would think differently. Last week I went to get a core aireator at the place them build a test there equipment. I was amaszed of all the testing they do. Stress test of all kinds, I seen a tiller that had small wires all over it, It looked like it had been though a war. They cross RR tracks and drop it on the rail. I'm sure ear muffs are required. A read out on a computure tells which part of the frame needs stronger corners and which parts had no effect on the beating. I can see why there alittle more money than some.

Rich, I am using a 1572 on my TC29D & have had no problems. I'm mowing 5 acres with it. I just looked in the new LP catalog & the main difference seems to be that the 25 series has higher max horsepower limits than the 15 series and is heavier. I have been very happy with my 1572.

Can't comment on the model you are considering, but I have been (ab)using an AT 2560 for several years and have only had to deal with a blown tire or two. Cuts as good as the day I got it. I'm sure the quality is in the lighter units...just a matter of appropriatness of the model to your conditions of use.

Thanks for your comments, guys. I can always count on all of you. I decided to get the 1560. I've been spending alot of money on my property since I bought it 6 months ago, and $400 is a big difference to me.
What amazes me is the attitiude of the tractor dealers. If you're only buying implements, they just don't seem to care. I had decided on a King Kutter 60", rear discharge mower from another dealer (only $1000) about an hour from where I live. After numerous phone calls about it, I was ready to pick it up. I decided to call to confirm that they had it before I left. They reluctantly admitted that they didn't have any rear discharge mowers, and were planning on selling me a side discharge, after I specifically told them that I wanted a rear discharge. Good thing I called. Then I tried to get the same mower from the same chain at a location even further. They tried to pull the same thing! Then I got a good price on a Woods mower. After two weeks of the saleman telling me that they would get the mower delivered to the store "tomorrow", I finally gave up. That's why I decided on the Land Pride at my local tractor dealer. At least he had it in stock! But even there, I ran into problems. First, he didn't want to take a credit card, because he loses 2%. When I told him that I don't normally carry $1500 cash on me, he took the card. I asked if he could deliver it right away (He lives down the road from me, and he knows my house). He agreed, and I thought, now we're getting somewhere!
Well, when he delivered it, he took it off the trailer, and he was ready to leave. I asked if he could help me hook it up to my tractor for the first time, and he looked at me like I had three heads. But he reluctantly agreed. When we couldn't get the power shaft to fit the pto, he said it was too long, and he'd bring it back to the shop and cut it down. Now, if he had just left it, I'd still be trying to figure out why I couldn't hook it up. As he was getting in the truck with the power shaft, I said "Wait! We have to measure how much to cut off!" He said "Naw, I'll have 'em cut off 6 inches, and we'll go from there", and he drove off! If he comes back today, and the shaft is too short, he better be prepared to give me a new one!
I can't believe that I spend $1500 and he acts like he's doing me a favor. I even told him that I'm planning on getting more tractor attachments, and if he takes care of me, I'll get them all from him, and that my friend just got a used tractor and is looking for attachments, too.
I run a side business, and if I treated customers like these guys do, I'd never survive!
I'll let you all know what happens next! I had an easier time buying the darn tractor!!

Rich- Just wanted to say I feel your pain in re: to buying implements. I've experienced exactly the same attitudes you've come across. The place I just spent $2700 at on a LP2560 finish mower (love it!) and a Bush Hog SQ600 rotary cutter (also love it!) apparently couldn't care less that I'm still in the market for a tiller and a box blade. I've talked to them on the phone and in person several times over a 2 week period and they still haven't supplied the answers I was looking for. I went back to my original tractor dealer after letting him know I would/did take my $ where I'd get the best deal and he FINALLY gave me a decent price on a tiller. Should be getting a Bush Hog RTS50 next week.

I see you're also from NY. I wonder if this attitude is a regional thing? Nah, I doubt it /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif!

Dave, interesting that you're experiencing the same thing! However, I don't think it's regional. I recently moved here to upstate NY from Long Island (Now that's an area with attitudes!), and one of the reasons I wanted to move here is because the people are so great! Every other thing I've bought, I got alot of help, but tractor implements is another thing entirely. I guess they feel if you're not buying a tractor, they're not making enough money to give you their valuable time!

Hey Rich...

Luckily not all dealers have the same attitude. Example: I just purchased a 65-gallon PTO driven sprayer. It cost $700 and the dealer set it up and delivered it to me same day. It's got one of the new single-nozzle sprayers. Well... after using it for about 3 weeks, I determined that the wind never quit blowing around my house and the spray created by the single-nozzle wasn't giving me an effective spray pattern. So yesterday I went back to my dealer and asked if I could purchase a retro-fit boom to fit my sprayer. He immediately contacted the manufacturer and after about 5-minutes on the phone he told me the manufacturer said he'd have a boom delivered to me next week... at no cost. Now that's good customer service... and all for a $700 sprayer /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

As for Land Pride... I've owned several of their implements and have never had any problems. I currently use the side-discharge 2560 on 10-acres and it does a great job.

Well so far the saga of my finishing mower ends happily. I had told the salesman that I was going out Friday night, and needed him to deliver the drive shaft by 6:30. He showed up at 7:00, just as we were getting ready to leave. He said he was afraid if he didn't show up he was afraid that I'd kill him. (My friends always tell me that I look intimidating when I'm angry.) We hooked up the drive shaft, and it actually fit! Then, of course he tried a sales pitch for a new tractor (I have a 1951 Ferguson TO-20.). He said he wasn't sure how well the mower would work on an old tractor, and I'd have better results with a new Boomer. I laughed and said if I could afford one, I'd buy one. Then he actually helped me adjust the mowing height.
I used it first thing Saturday morning. It works great! Actually even beyond my expectations. It stays right behind the tractor, doesn't drift at all! And it cuts great! This is a Land Pride 1560, and the salesman told me that the 2560 would cut much better. I can't imagine that, because this is as good of a cut as I've ever seen. The only problem is I didn't realize how uneven my land is in a few spots, and the blades went right into the dirt. So far no harm, and all is right with my mowing world!!
Thanks for all your responses and support!!
Rich
