This has been mentioned in passing.

Since my BB is too big for my tractor and to better control the depth it cuts, I'd like to be able to limit the depth it cuts. I could mount some receiver hitch type mounts on the top rear of the BB and attach to that.

But practically, I think I'd need to be able to adjust the wheels on the fly in order to start pulling dirt, then lower the wheels.

I suppose it would work to control the depth of the scarifiers by themselves, which might be good.

Maybe I should just fab some skid shoes that would bolt to the inside of the BB and pivot in the front so it would be adjustable by a pin at the rear. That way I could adjust it quickly (although stopped) and it could cut in to a certain level, then potentially remain at that depth............. Hummmmmmmm, need another tottie and think about this some more......

Any thoughts on this?????????????????? Pics greatly welcomed.

THKS.

Thats what I did with my back blade. In a atempt to save my gravel when pushing snow I made some ajustable skid shoes.

Pics???????

Would like to see how you did it...... I have a vision in my mind, but would like to see what someone has already done.

My vision is to mount the skid shoes inside the BB, so it would be out of the way..... With the ability to pivot over a wide range, they could be all the way up out of the way. Or down to 1, 2, 4, 6" settings with only about 8 holes for adjustment to drill in the BB.

There was another thread asking the same question.

I made some and I'll attach a pic but they sure aren't pretty but do work for my needs.

Ron,

I take it you want to use the box blace on the back of your BX2200?

I doubt you will be happy with anything mounted inside the box. I know with mine, damp earth/clay does not always fall out right away, and that is with nothing inside to help hold it there...

Gage wheels on the box blade would have to be much heavier duty than those used on a lighter blade like a back blade or landscape rake...in my case, I pile a couple hundred pounds of extra weight on my cheap KK box. I can't imagine gage wheels on it really. Most of the time I pull, but I also push dirt backwards sometime...the gage wheels would get in the way. And take a beating too....

My advice would be to get a box that is sized for the tractor. You will probably be happier in the long run if you do.

Of course that solution does not offer much challenge...aside from coming up with the dollars... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Henro,

Thought about the hanging-up clay issue.........

The more I think about it, the more I will abandon gage wheels and go with skid shoes. I have the steel, not the time, but think I will think about and fab something up. Just this morning, a buddy called me about scaping some 1-2" trees off the back of his property...... Will do that with the FEL and BB.

Right now, buying any more toys (I mean tools!) is not on the horizon.

Skid shoes that allow the scarifiers to be down and keep the blade off the ground AFTER moving the trees out appeals to me.

Of course, I need to drop the mower and build a skid plate to protect the hydraulics first........

Too many go dos; too little time. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nice pic!

Here's a pic of what I am thinking of.

It will be more complex as I want the yellow part to pivot, so as I adjust it, the shoe can remain close to parallel with the ground. I'd use 2x3 3/16th angle. By having two holes in the shoe mount, I can drill fewer holes in the BB side and still have multiple adjustments.

Right now, I'm thinking +2" (for scarifiers only), 0" (for leveling), -2" and -4" for cutting.

Thoughts Please???????????

THis is just a WAG, but I think if you are to use skid shoes with a box blade (or gage wheels for that matter) the pivot point should be at, or preferrably behind, the cutting blade.

This is because the cutting blade needs to go below the level of the surface that the skid shoes will ride on. And to cut, I think it should be angled down, rather than up...

When gage wheels are used, the pivot point is the axle of the wheel, and the wheel is positioned behind the implement.

When I looked at your attachment, I was not sure where the box blade would be positioned with respect to the pivot point. You may have it perfect for all I know.

After posting this I will look at the attachment and turn /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif 'cause it is probably obvious on the second look... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
