3pt splitter

Anyone here have experiance with the 3 point logsplitter from Northern Tool?

The price is right and it would be shared within the family. I just wonder how well they work.

Do you have an auxiliary remote?
If so, how many GPMs to they put out?
My brother has one, but it runs off the back of a 50 HP farm tractor. In this case, it works great.
You could also add a PTO pump if the tractor is small.

The main tractor it would be used on would be a JD950 27 eng hp, with the aux remotes. It might be put on a Mahindra 3510, but most likely just the 950. The 950 runs a hoe fine so I figure there is enough gpm

You should be OK then. If not, yo can always add a PTO pump later.

Your tractor will likely have enough GPM but not the PSI needed for splitting some real snarly wood.

I have one that I build it to work with JD 850, and now is power by Mahindra 2015 tractor. I does fine for the most part. I'm splitting a red oak that same of it is still green, it does have fair amount of knots. I'm running mostly at the idle speed. The cylinder size is 2.75" dia, stroke 24" /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jut got 3 of them need to sell 1 of them will get you a photo see what you think. I have a Kubota L4610 9.6 gal. per min. works good, also got the 4 way wege makes 4 out of 1 way better!!!

I bought one this summer - the horizontal model. I run it with a John Deere 4300 - 9 gpm. I don't think that I'd be happy with a whole lot less flow.

The slide needed to be smoothed up a bit. The flame cut pieces between the top and the bottom of the slide started galling the beam on one side. A few minutes with a die grinder solved the problem.

The paint isn't the best. It is coming off in a couple of places. Looks like poor surface prep.

I've only split five or six cords so far so I really don't know how it will hold up long term. Seems to be built sturdy enough for a four inch cylinder. I haven't yet tried a big white oak top or gum, so I don't what it will do under extreme stress/twist.
