Rear chains

   / Rear chains #31
i have a 2wd tractor similar in size to yours, a ford 3600, 42 hp w/fel and wheel weights. it couldn't get out of it's own way on snow until i loaded the rears. i put double loop chains on it when i need it. here in northern pa, the chains come out after the base freezes (dec or jan) and traction is lost on most any surface for any 2wd tractor. my main plower is an 8n, loaded tires, rear blade, chains in after freeze.

Are the loops / rings large enough that R1 tread bars don't render them ineffective? How hard are they on paved surfaces?

Chains will definitely do wonders for a 2wd tractor, but after years of messing with chains and plowing with the tractor, I found what worked best for me was a 4wd pickup and a plow. With that I got a cab w/ heat, a comfortable seat, good windshield wipers, (stereo music that I could actually hear!), and even a place to put my bee... I mean coffee. :D

I can always go out with the tractor after the storm in over and the sun is shining to clean up, push back bankings if need be, etc.
