Does anybody have a picture by chance on how to mount a 3 pt Boom Pole to/in FEL bucket? I have heard of people doing this but can't for the life of me figure out how they did it. I am going to be building my own house and would love this to set the trusses with. Any info on doing this, precautions, how too's or what have ya would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

We put some gas pipe in an A shape on the bucket of my Dad's old John Deere when we built a structure for them. That gave about 25' height with a line coupled to a boat winch bolted on to the tractor frame. 50 foot trusses - but it was a big heavy old tractor...

You may have to drill and bolt on some hardware to accomodate the 3ph boom pole. That said - watch your back! Make sure you counter balance well. Big objects up high like that get tippy REAL easy. I would do the math and check it against your rated specs - then derate a bit just for safety. I hope you have an L series or bigger 'bota

I haven't purchased yet, but will be within the next few months. Will purchase L3710, LA681 loader w/heavy duty bucket and brush hog of some sort. Do you think this would be suffecient for 30-35 ft trusses for a house? Also, is the lift height sufficient w/ the boom pole FEL combo to completely clear the first floor wall by hooking to the top peak of the truss or do you have to hook lower down toward the middle it. I plan on using the setup to build my own house.

Thanks for all your help!

I envy your timber framing skills! I have always wanted to be able to build a timber framed house for myself. I love the ol barn feel of it!

I just lifted my trusses, 50ft., with my skidsteer on the last barn that I built. I had two guys with ropes on ladders on the posts they were going to sit on and one guy in the bucket keeping it level and just hoisted it up. If that skidder can do it that tractor you're talking about certainly will.

The trusses I was mentioned were quite a bit heavier then today's mass-produced ones. These were home-made about 25 years ago - things have gotten a bit lighter since then. You are getting an identical rig to mine - should be no problem with a smaller truss. There are some good mounting slots on the HD bucket sides - look it over and you may get some good ideas for making your lifting mast.

Jarring2:

If you're only going to set trusses on a single story wall I don't think you need the boom pole.

Just lift them one end at a time (a couple of guys can do it - they're quite light) and "hang" them upside down from the top plate of the walls. Then, using a 2x4 "pike pole", just rotate them and flip them right side up.
