Anybody know why cat-I quick-hitches are sized for cat-II pins?

I know that its a simple matter to add the adapter sleeves to all the attachments, but wouldn't it be better to just have cat-I sized hooks on the quick-hitch?

My impression, and from measurements, is that the lower 'hooks' on the quick hitch are for Cat III and the top 'hook' is for cat II.

The adapters for the lower pins are 1 3/8 od, with 7/8 id. They say cat I to cat III adapter, and it is from Speeco.

To answer your question, I don't know why that size is picked. But it was. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That would be for the HD version, referred to as a Cat2/3. The question addresses the normal duty version, referred to as a Cat 1/2.

It permits tractor owners like myself who own both Cat 1 and Cat 2 implements, to use just one Quick Hitch (with bushings when required). If it only had Cat 1 lower hooks, I couldn't pick up my mower and my box blade - both of which have Cat 2 lift pins.

So my iMatch is not 'normal' /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I guess I didn't think the iMatch for my Cat I 3pt would need a HD quick hitch, and it is the same as the SpeeCo unit (haven't seen any smaller quick hitches, but must be some around). There is a cat II bushing that is used to attach the iMatch to the Cat I 3pt arms.

But the lower 'hooks' do take the Cat I to Cat III bushing.

Dunno anything about iMatch myself. But if you're suggesting that SpeeCo makes them for JD, you might be interested in knowing that they make FIVE different sized Quick Hitches. I only described two. The one I own matches the description provided by Rick. And truthfully, I got dizzy trying to figure out your iMatch description.

While you can get by using just linch pins in the implement pegs, you really are supposed to use a sleeve over the lower pegs with a flair on the outside. This keeps the quick hitch centered in the middle, less prone to falling off.

This sleeve is longer than the lower pegs, and uses roll pins to hold it onto the pegs.

Obviously, the sleeve takes some room - about the same as an adaptor sleeve to go to the next size......

Did a search, the usual stores don't have on-line pics, but wow this site has anything you want for 3pt pictured.....

http://www.multipleoverseas.com/tractor_parts.htm

If you count up from the bottom of the page, 3rd picture up, it would be the hollow sleeve in the upper left corner. The black arm is pointing right at it....

You slip this sleeve over your implement pins with the thicker collar to the outside and drive a roll pin through the hole in the sleeve & pin. This gives a big secure area for the quick hitch to grab onto.

Now, gotta rumage through more of their pics.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
