Thanks Bill,
That's a very helpful review. Much appreciated. Do you remember having any jams and if you did, were they hard to get to and remove?

Cliff:

Nothing jammed in the chipper, but I did have to cut most side branches so that they did not hang in the lower portion of the chute.

I had a few jams in the shredder side but simply used a 2" or 3" branch to push and jab a few times until the shredder grabbed the branches and pulled them in.

I am looking for the same chipper shredder and the Merry Mac seems to be to way to go. The unit is made in PA by MIkissic. They havebeen in business for many years. I think I'm going to make the purchase soon. Mark

Oh good. Then I can wait for you to do some chipping and shredding and tell me how it went. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Actually, I probably waited too long to buy my chipper this fall anyway and now I may wait until spring. My scrub pile is high, but I can't get my tractor out of the garage right now because I think it might sink to the seat in mud.

Are there problems chipping in the winter when it's 20 degrees (F)? Does it cause premature wear of the parts or anything? I'm thinking not, but thought I might ask.

I have done alot of yard cleanup through out the year and have never had any problems with my past machines. I used a Troy Bilt 5hp Tomahawk for years and never had so much as one problem. I sold it to a wildlife business for use as a bedding shredder for rabbits and turtles. I sold it because it was heavy and cumbersome to move over uneven ground. I didn't do much cleanup for a few years due to an injury to the back. I can now do the work again but thought about a chipper shredder vac but for the same money I can buy the Merry Mac and use the tractor power instead of another gas engine to maintain as stated in posts prior to this one. I too am limited to availble space for storage, I have filled a three car garage and a 12x24 shed with equipment to date and still have the ground engaging equipment outside. I want to be able to store this inside with my other things. I feel that the unit is stout enough to work year round and the support staff at Makissic are fine people to work with. The unit is the same as their tow behind 12 TP9 model. They told me this basic unit has been around for years and is a very good unit. The only dif is that the tractor provids the power. I'm looking to buy after the first of the year. Keep in touch and I'll let you know if I find it anywhere else for less than Northern Tool. ( I'm a stingy fool with my cash when it comes to prices.) Talk to ya later. Mark /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've been considering a PTO chipper. I've got a little BX 1500 that has about 11 hp at the PTO. Currently I have a small Bear Cat that does an OK job, but is getting a little worn. The shredder screen needs to be welded every now and then. I don't know how much more life the B&S engine has left in it also. Can they make these engines any cheaper? They sure aren't what they used to be.

I really like the idea of one less engine to have to maintain. In additon, it would be another reason to use the tractor.

So any one getting one of these Merry Mac chippers, I sure would appreciate a review. It's a lot of money to buy something sight unseen.

Thanks.

Rick
