Grapple Dueling Buckets - Grapple vs. Standard

I have two buckets for the same reason. I made my grapple out of a very used skid steer 5' wide. Since I bought a L 5030 I should make another but 6' wide to cover my tracks.

OK you sold us on the grapple, where do we send the money? Will you accept cash? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Pine Ridge, TBN member, Wroughtn_harv is the one that pointed out my need for a grapple bucket when he came over....and he just happen to have one lying around for a fair price. Now I can stack the brush in a pile instead of just pushing it to the side. The universal skidsteer loader makes the 30 second bucket change out easy. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Did you keep the flat face QDs or did you change them out for Pioneer type?

Texbaylea, I changed them out for the pioneer type. I am going to make an adapter out of the flat bobcat adapters to connect to the pioneer connection if I ever need to rent Bobcat equipment.

How do you have the hose ran.
I put female couplers above the loader remotes and run the hoses under the cab to back remote. This way I do not have to fish the hoses under the cab and tie them up.

DDT, I ran the hydraulic lines from the rear remotes to these front connections following the BH and FEL lines. If I had to do it again I would remembered to put another disconnection point where the loader disconnects, but I haven't removed the loader the past year and if I ever do I'll add the disconnects then. Some of the TBNer's are adding valves at the loader which is an excellent idea to keep the rear remotes free and fingertip grapple control on the joystick.

txdon,

Lots of great pics.

If you add teath to the grapple bucket they will be further from the pivot point giving them less break out force than the standard bucket for digging and prying. You are right , the teeth will much improve the gathering and grappling abillities.

I must ask why you did not consider a 4in1? It may not work as well as the grapple for grappling or the HD for loading but it does both well and can be up graded easily for either and does not need to be but on and off all the time.

Yes, I do have one and like it. It does not do everything real well but it does so much, I do not know what I would have done without it. I did modify it a bit and plan on more to improve it's grapple work. It does pick up logs well. I have not found one it was not able to pick up.

I see you have the powerful L853 loader. Lots of clearing in it's future.

I like the add on square tube grapple as well. Looks like it has been getting alot of work. It is always nice to see the ideas and work of others. No need to re-invent every wheel.

Keep the pictures coming.

Don, that grapple is making me jealous. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I could sure use one. This weekend, I moved a couple of trees that blew down in a recent wind storm and I was thinking of your grapple and how easy the job would have been if I had one like it.

My NH dealer showed me a rock rake/fork with a grapple and I figure that would be the ideal tool for me. I really need a rock rake so I can sift through soil and pick up rocks. With the grapple attached, I could clear brush and use the grapple to fill up a gully. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif What are you doing with the brush? Are you making a burn pile?

Well Don I'm glad to see you enjoying the bucket. It's doing much more for you than it was for me.

What happened was a customer gave me the Bobcat grapple bucket in liew of payment. I'd had it about a year and hadn't even replumbed it to fit my JCB. Bobcat has their couplings on the left and JCB has theirs on the right.

When I was down at Don's it was obvious he needed a grapple bucket desperately. I let him have the Bobcat one for what I had in it.

If someone's looking at grapple buckets I would really consider some of the advantages the Bobcat has. Stuff like two sets of tongs that enable you to pick up odd shaped objects. One of the my friends has one that has four tongs but they're on the same bar and picking up some things isn't easy. Another thing is the way they've designed the bottom plate. It's plenty strong but the sides have been cut out deep enough that one can pick up really large bites.

Don what might be interesting would be to pick up a quick attach plate off of Ebay for less than a hundred dollars. Then you can pick up five teeth from an aftermarket box blade and some plate material.

When you do your welding class you can put all that together and have a quick attach root blade for dozing with the Kubota. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
