Anyone had any experience with the Landpride category 1 quick hitch? My dealer is getting one in and has offered to let me try it for a week. Cost is around $300.

FarmerBob,
I don't have a Landpride brand quick hitch but I do have a couple of the ones TSC sells (same thing but the LP has an adjustable top hook, mine doesn't). I have heard some people on the board refer to problems of this type of hitch not fitting some implements but in the 15 years or so that I used them I have never had a problem. In fact they are just about a life saver especially on cat II and heavy stuff. It makes alot of difference when you can back up, drop and disconnect from one implement, move over and hook up to another and then drive off without leaving the seat (on non pto driven equipment). I tend to change implements a lot (from rotary cutter to boxblade to a plow etc, etc,) over a weekend and with no one around to assist me it was a major hassle and it sure wasn't helping my tender back trying to push/shove these things into alignment 2 or 3 times a day.
So, anyway I now have one for my cat I and II tractors and I even made one myself to fit my cat 0 JD430 so that I can back up to the 3pth yard vacuum, lift it up and go. It's kind of like a FEL, once you have one you want to slap yourself for not doing it sooner. My opinion:Get One, ASAP.

The local farmstore has them for $139.

I'm going to give it a try and if it fits all my implements the dealer can just leave it and I'll send him a check. At 55, even the cat1 implements are a real chore for me sometime, and I'm constantly changing from one implement to another. I looked at some of the other quick hitches but most require a piece for the implement and that can get costly in a hurry. My only concern with the Landpride is how the unsecured top hook will work on my Landpride 2560 finish mower. The mower has a floating toplink connection and it just seems that the connection would bounce out. I can't imagine LP marketing something that wouldn't fit all of their equipment though.

I see you're from my part of the country. My "real" home is Jackson, TN and I spent several years working in Nashville. It's a great place and I'd move back there in a New York instant. My wife still has a brother in Nashville and a sister in Springfield. Beautiful country... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for the input. See ya round the forum...

Thanks Richard. I'll check out TSC and see what they've got. Have you used one?

Yes I've got the same one and it works fine.

Farmer Bob- I'm just working from memory here, but I don't think ALL LP implements are designed to work with their Quick Hitch. I have their full catalog at home and I think they indicate there which implements will accept the hitch. Maybe the finish mower is not one of them.

BTW, I have the 2560 rear discharge mower and really like it. How 'bout you?

Dave...

Mine is the FD2560 side discharge model. It's the second one I've had and I really liked them both. My neighbor has an FDR2572 rear discharge. We sometimes mow together and I can't really tell any difference... other than his takes a foot wider cut than mine. I imagine if we got into cutting overgrown grass his would tend to clump less than mine, but we try not to let the grass get too high between mowing.

I'll check out the Landpride site and see if they list the implements that will not work with the quick hitch. Thanks for the info...

Dave...

Just finished checking out the LP site. For the quick hitch to work with floating toplinks, you need an optional kit.

Re: Landpride Quick Hitch- SpeeCo version

Farm & Family like TSC carries the Quick hitch and also top link adapters.{I think $300. is too pricey}

See another previous post Speeco Quick Hitch & Adapter

But...if you can get telescoping lift arms instead... that's the way to go.
