Has anyone come up with a compact rack to hold a post hole digger. I sure would like to see a diagram if you have. Thanks!

I had the same problem you probably have: the thing is unwieldy and takes up a lot of space plus, it is difficult and dangerous to take off and on. I took 3 4X4's and made a sort of teepee shaped rack, ran some steel cable around two sides of it to keep it from spreading out and put a short piece of chain with a hook. Now I can back up to it, hook the chain to the top of the post hole digger, lower the hitch so the digger is now hanging on the chain, unhook everything and drive away. When putting it on it makes it nice because the digger is just hanging there making it easy to move around a little when making all of the connections. If your building will support it you could just hang it from a rafter.
I know I used to have some real wrestling matches when trying attach the digger to my tractor. A couple of times while I was positioning everything it would be standing on the auger and the main spar when one or the other would slip on the floor slamming shut in my face. That's when I built mine. Be careful.

I looked at that one. It looks a liitle wimpy and how does one get it on and off the stand?

I've got one that my dealer has made locally - works OK - it's on the same idea as that eastern machinery one but much better. I don't have anything to hang it from so I wanted a stand. I think the idea of "hanging" it might be the best. I won't be up to the country for a coupla more weeks but will try to remember to take a pic of it and post it. For temporary and in emergencies I had it suggested to me to dig the auger into the ground 1/4 of the way then disconnect it - it doesn't tip then when you reconnect. Can't say as I thought much of the idea and never tried it. I did wear out 1 set of auger teeth and 1 shear pin on 12 holes though. (goin' can get a lil' tuff in Tx)

Sounds like it would work fine. Now all I have to do is find a place to put it so my wife won't make me move it. : ) Thanks!

That's so close to what a local welder is building for my dealer that I'd hate to think he stole the idea - might be a patent infringement ------ looks like the same thing I have. Probably has a minor change in it somewhere.

A few years back when I bought my HD Bush Hog auger,my dad and I built a stand for it. Since neither of us were wood butchers,I took the easy route with it. I put the skid it came on and some 2"x6",and 4 casters to good use. The auger rests on the skid, with the bit behind it. The hitch part fits in a channel, that is nailed together with the skid, diagonally braced. The rack is slid under the unit while on the tractor, then lowered, unhooked, and drive away.
