I will be buying a compact tractor soon, Cub, Kubota, JD, havent made up my mind yet. This is a new world to me and I am wondering what are the good quality implement brand names out there, and what should I expect to pay?
What is a good quality tiller, bushog, landscaping box and what is an appox price. 4ft range. Thanks in advance!!

DSmith, I'd like to help you, but it's too broad a question; kind of like "what's a good car to buy?" There are a lot of good brands of implements; Bush Hog, Landpride, Woods, Rhino, etc. in addition to the ones with the tractor manufacturer name on them, i.e., New Holland, Kubota, John Deere, and I'm probably leaving out some good brand names. In addition there are many cheaper brands that may or may not be just as suitable for your use, depending on how heavy a use you're going to put them to.

Do a little shopping and looking and try to post more specific questions and there are a bunch of folks on here that will try to answer them for you. And you might even get some conflicting opinions, since we all have some personal preferences, too./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Good luck with your shopping and tractor purchase.

Depends as Bird said on what you want to do with it.

Lot of preference for Kubota, but John Deere and New Holland have a lot of following also.

Tillers are expensive. Tractor Supply has about the least expensive that looks pretty good at $1000. When I asked them where to get replacement tangs for it, they could not find out. But I am sure someone knows.
4 ft Brush Hogs are between $300 and $600 depending on brand name or not.
Boxblades are all over the place but $350 -600 will cover all except the heavy duty (heavy) ones. After you try to use one, you will see why the heavy ones work a lot better.

Sorry guys, I have about 4 acres that need to be leveled, smoothed. About 1 acre of woods that need to be maintained once a month. After the 4 acres is leveled, it will be mowed only. Tilling will be used for gardening. Just want an idea of what to expect. Thanks....

DSmith, you say in the 4' range. I don't know which tractor you are going to buy, but plan to buy all implements at least as wide as, and preferably slightly wider, than the outside tread of your rear tires. Tillers are expensive; the other implements not so bad. For example, I paid $1,300 for a 40" Bush Hog brand tiller in 1995 and $650 for a 4' Bush Hog brand brush hog. Wen has pretty well addressed the other questions. A 4' box blade can be had for a variety of prices, and the heavier it is, the more it will cost and the better it'll work, but a cheaper one might be just fine it it's strong enough you can't break it, and you can add weights to it when needed.

By the way, DSmith, you say you haven't made up your mind yet, but are going to buy a Cub, Kubota, or John Deere. All good tractors, but go look at a New Holland, too, if for no other reason than to keep JimBinMi happy./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif They're also pretty nice tractors if you don't object to that French Blue color./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Good morning DSmith.
A early congatulation on your new tractor which you are going to purchase.

You made an oops by not adding New Holland,and Jim will correct you on that so be ready....... :eek:)

Far as attachment goes,different companies different prices.
I have different brand names for my attachment,Kubota & York & Woods.
I look for the construction and price in a attachment also the width.
My Kubota takes 48" attachment but I rather use 60" attachment,only because I don't like to crowd the tractor to close to banks or objects.

You can find some great deals at a public farm auctions or dealer auctions.

For information on box blades go to www.monroetufline.com. You can get the equipment specs and email them for additional information if you need to . They make good equipment. It is a tough decison on which tractor to buy. When I was trying to make up my mind I got brochures on John Deere, Kubota, and New Holland and made put all of the specs in a spreadsheet to make it easier to compare them. I decided on the green one. Not only because I thought it was more for the money but my wife grew up using a John Deere and that influenced my decision. All three and good tractors. I agree with what others have said. Buy all the horsepower that you can afford. Why doesn't anyone ever mention the red one. My brother-in-law has a MF (65hp) and it is a very good tractor. They seem to be heavier than the other brands. I considered buying one but I did not like the location of the shift levers. That is another reason I bought a JD, it is easier for my wife and daughter-in-law to operate. My wife has more hours on it than I do. Make a wise decision buat be happy with whatever you get.
