King Kutter Box scraper

Driver- Yes, I believe Bush Hog http://bushhog.com/turftoc.html makes a nice, heavy box blade. I have their 5' blade, the BX600 and it weighs 490 lbs. Wish I could have found a local Woods dealer though because GlueGuy's 4' blade is about the same weight!

FWIW, I haven't used this blade yet because it was delivered in bad condition, by no fault of Bush Hog I believe. The top hitch is slightly splayed out and I couldn't find a top pin that's long enough to go all the way thru. I also couldn't find any way to bend it back in... not even a little! Also, it looks like it was stored outside for years(?) and was mowed up against... chipped, scratched, rusted and still caked with dried grass clippings. My dealer picked it up from another dealer and was obviously embarrassed about it's condition. Said he spent 15 min. at a car wash trying to clean off the grass. It wasn't delivered with a top pin so he didn't know about that until I called two days after delivery! He's getting me a new one, hopefully today. Moral of this story is check out carefully whatever implement you buy even if it's something as simple as a boxblade!

Driver,

You also may want to do a search for the box blades.

Here's one KingKutter in General, I had posted some time ago.

Lots and lots of value for your hard earned money!/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thanks for all of the input. My dealer carries Bushhog and King Kutter. If I spec the tractor with these branded implements, I can roll them into the initial tractor loan. I guess I really need to consider how heavily it will be used.

Just another thought, has anyone used the Kubota brand box scraper, and was it very high priced?

My dealer didn't recommend the Kubota boxblade, but I don't know what the cost was on it. Comparing it to the Woods, it was lighter, the blades were not replaceable, and it didn't have any of the reinforcements/gussets that the Woods has.

Thanks for the info on the Kubota unit. I wonder if they make it themselves? It sounds like the Woods or Gannon would be a better choice for heavy duty work.

Almost all of the Kubotas larger box scrapers are manufactured by Gannon which is owned by Woods. If a dealer was selling something else it may have more to do with his profit margin for which I would not blame him. For the absolute heaviest duty of boxscrapers, no one makes em bigger and heavier then Gannon. They have 4x4 models 96" wide and over 2000lbs. I would have picked up a Gannon instead of my Gearmore but for aboout the same weight I saved about $400. In retrospect though, the Gannon uses a much more massive 3 pt hitch setup and hydraulic cylinder for the rippers is bigger and for that I would have gone Gannon over Gearmore. Rat...

Depending on what you are looking for, implements in the condition you describe can be a great find.

I've been able to get nice discounts on new implements that have just been sitting outside for a year or two. It all depends on what matters to you, but for example I got a new 54" 3PH snow blower with power chute control for $1100.

My implements all look like hell after using them a few times anyway, so I go for the discount when available.

It's going to cost your dealer to get you another scraper, do pick up and delivery, etc., then he's still going to be left with an unsellable scraper. Consider negotiating with him.

Hayden- Actually the box blade was just the last straw for me. I've spent over $20K in the past 4 months, all on "new" stuff and without exception everything has come to me scratched, nicked and/or rusted. None of these things were represented to me in this condition so making a deal based on condition has not been an option. I admit to feeling a bit overly **** about this but as has been said by others here in a recent thread, I should be the one nicking, scratching, denting etc. these things. On top of this I'm not happy with my tractor dealer and am seriously doubting that I made the right move by buying locally. Briefly, I've been waiting over 3 months now for a 60" bucket, wheel spacers, new rear tire and I've owned the box blade for a month now but can't use it because the top hitch is bent. BTW, the dealer will not be out anything on the box blade. Because it's defective, he'll return it to BH for credit.

Running out of patience!
