My dealer is offering $525 for a 6 foot King Kutter box scraper.
Any thoughts on the price or the quality of the implement?

Driver, I bought a 5 1/2 foot King Kutter box scraper for $299.99 last fall at Big R. That was the going price at Quality as well, they were just out of them. Sounds to me your dealer is a little high, even for the extra 6" over mine.

As for quality, I'm completely satisfied. My soil is pretty sandy so it's easy to work. I think if you were a contractor and/or working a lot of tougher conditions you may want a heavier duty unit. For the typical homeowner, the KK should be fine /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

There are 2 versions of the KK box sold at my local Farm&Fleet store. One is 299 and the other is about 500. If you don't have to worry about banging it up on rocks, the heavier one is probably ok. Just remember that the rule of thumb for ground engaging equipment is "More weight is More Better". It it is light, it just flat out won't cut into tough ground! BUT, you can make the ground less tough by close cutting the grass and using the scar bars (or as few as one bar) and making lots of passes.

Personally, I think it is cheaper to buy a better unit from the get go rather than buy the lower cost one AND later the better unit too! Just my $0.02. Your milage may vary....

I got a 5 1/2' KK box blade obout 2 years ago. worked great behind a 20hp 755. but now I have a 4300 I would like to get a heaver and wider unit. I now have more tractor than blade.

Previous post says it all: "More heavier is more better". Figure about 125 pounds per foot for a decent box blade. I've got a Woods 4' blade for my B7500 that tips the scales at about 500#. It works very well for a little blade. Darn near bullet proof.

I'll try to pin down an exact model number so I can look up an exact weight.

This is one area where so many folks want to skimp. They will buy $7.00 a quart sysnthetic oil and polish their tractor and all but sleep with it and then they go a put a pink tutu on it for a box scraper. John Bud is right, get one that is heavier and well built. The reasons are 3 fold. Better ability to get into the soil, better strength and finally, great ballast for the loader and certainly more stability. Rat...

How about the Bush hog brand box scrapers? Are they adequately stout?
