Does anyone make a 3pt hitch backhoe that is small enought to fit on a BX2230. I've seen 3pt hitch backhoes but they are all much too large for the subcompact BX2230. Thanks.

I don't know of a 3pt hitch backhoe, but the Woods unit is nice. I saw it at a farm show last year. I think it mounts on its own subframe. It's specifically made for subcompacts like the BX. Here's a link:

I wonder if I could fit that to a BX2230 or is it only for the BX23? I just wanted the option and I've been told by others of sub compact 3 pt hitch hoes, but no one ever seems to know who makes them.

I suppose any fitup is possible, but it ain't gonna look factory and might not work. How much effort do you want to go through?

If you think you might need the BH, buy the BX22/23.

By the time you add remotes for the BH to the 2200/2230, mod the frame of the tractor, buy all the mounting stuff (that I doubt is available via parts), and all the other hassles, my guess is you have equal to the extra cost of the 22/23.

For starters, the rear of the tractor, the ROPS, the seat, and the hydraulics are different on the non-BH - BH tractors.

The majority of the 2200 owners I've read on here traded up to the 22/23 when they realize they need the BH....... Some might buy a 3rd party BH, but if you want to stay Kubota, I'd do it right from the start.

Just my two cents.

The Woods BH6000 is made for the BX2200 & BX2230 and the like. The BX23 would already have a Kubota hoe and reversible seat.

Ditto SeymourBota. The woods unit is made for your tractor. It even comes with a bracket to convert the seat so you can reverse it when you want to backhoe. Find the nearest Woods dealer and check it out.

Go to the link I posted and find the brochure. (a pdf document) I'm pretty sure that on the second page of the brochure is a picture of the unit on a BX2230. Looks pretty good to me.

If I was buying a new tractor in this class and needed a backhoe, I would buy the BX23. But if I had a BX2230 that I was otherwise happy with, I would check out the Woods unit before trading it in on a BX23.

The only backhoe that is out there for the BX2230 is the Woods BH6000. That is unless you want to welding something up yourself :). I believe the Woods BH6000 is made to fit SubCompact tractors like the Kubota BX, the JD 2210, the NewHolland TZ series and the Massey GC series. The only two SubCompact size tractors that come from the factory with a backhoe are the Kubota BX23 and the Massey GC2310.

The Woods BH6000 backhoe is not a 3pt hitch backhoe - I believe it comes with a whole set of mounting plates that have to be installed on the tractor. These plates make the install of the Woods very similar to the factory installed backhoe on the BX23. I am not sure if the Woods braces up the frame on the BX2230 the same way the BX23 is braced up though. I don't believe you would want to put a 3pt hitch backhoe on a BX size tractor anyway - I know with the hoe on my BX23 I can really move the tractor around if I have it in the right position and am really yanking on something to try and get it out of the ground. A 3pt hitch mounted backhoe would in all likelihood tear the 3pt into pieces and damage the tractor even if one did exist.

If you are thinking of 3pt hitch backhoe as a convienience thing - don't worry - the backhoe on the BX23 is VERY easy to get off once you get the hang of it. I can take the backhoe on and off my BX23 with in less time and than it takes to swap 3pt implements.

The dealer that I bought my BX23 from had a BX2230 with the Woods BH6000 mounted to it for a while - I have to say that the Woods is a nice looking piece of equipment. The Woods does come with a reversible seat kit so that would not be a big problem if for some reason you chose the 2230 with the Woods over the Kubota BX23. There are a few small detail things on the BX23 that make it more of an integrated unit with the backhoe than what you would get with a BX2230/Woods combination however. The ROPS on the BX23 is taller and wider so you have a nice operators area when using the backhoe, using the Woods you would be somewhat cramped inside the 2230 rops, the BX23 backhoe hydraulics have quick disconnects right to the tractor - the Woods uses a separate pump which might be somewhat less convienient. On the BX23 when you have the backhoe off you can also potentially use the hydraulics for things like top and tilt on the 3pt - the 2230 would mean extra hydraulics work if you wanted to do this. In the end if it was me I and I really wanted a backhoe on a BX tractor I would go with the BX23 over the BX2230/Woods combination. The Woods backhoe does start to make a lot of sense however if you are interested in a SubCUT tractor that isn't factory available with a backhoe - like the NH TZ or the Deere 2210.

Jim

Thanks for the insight. I was at a dealer today and he had the Woods BH installed on a NH TZ. Very nice unit to sayt he very least and a lot of feature that make it a better how than the OEM Kubota unit. He was not sure of plates to strengthen the tractor, but he said on the NH a few plates are welded on. It looked like the entire 3 PH on the NH had to eb removed but I never got a chance to ask him that one.

I'm pretty sold on the 2230 since its a bit better than the BX15 for a nominal price now and it can handle a BH if I really decide to get one later.

I need a good mowing machine and I'm just think that the BX23 with a 50" is just too much over kill for me.

Alot might disagree, but its a now verus later money thing too.

I saw a Woods BH on a Kubota 2230 at my Kubota dealer. He had it right on the show room floor. I thought it was a Factory unit, i.e., a BX23, until I saw the Woods name on the boom. It really looked good. If it works half as good as it looks, it'll be a dandy add-on for later.

I looked at the Woods website.... Looks good.

Just for grins, what would it set me back if I went nuts and bought one? Anyone know a list price???????????

THANKS.
