I've looked at pictures of various bed shapers. They either use a couple discs or a couple plows mounted on bars and then maybe a leveler piece of metal in between.

I've an old "soil ripper" that was made back in the days when they mounted all implements on 2" solid bars. You could buy other implements as "packages" that just mounted on the same bar.

Does anyone know of an implement outfit that still makes such implements? I'd just want a couple discs that I could clamp to my 2" bar. Then I'd basically have bed shaper stuff. Can do the leveling with a garden rake afterwards.

Ralph try looking at some of the stuff they make for ATV's. I've never tried any of it but it seems like TSC or Northern or maybe both sell implements that hook up like your talking about.

Other place to look is at a used farm equipment place--especially if they have a bonepile of old stuff. Might find some jewels in there!

There's one place like that about an hour west of me. Next time I'm there, I'll look. I'm thinking like a colter on a plow maybe........

Try Agri-Supply. (1-800-345-0169) 16" disc hiller (part # 11677) $63.90 a pair. They also have cultivator shanks w/ 16" sweeps, the wedge clamps, and bolt kits.

They are made for mounting on a "tool bar" like you've described.

Agri-Supply has stores allover the Carolina's Georgia, and Virginia. They do a big mail order business. Ask for a catalogue. Lot's of neet stuff! John /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do not know of any companies making that type of attachment now, but I have seen them at a couple of farm sales lately. Do you have a local farm equipment junk yard? I know of several places to pick up such discs around here. That may be a source for you.

Ralph what you need is a set of disc hillers. THey still make them but it would be easy to find soe off on old implemen they would have a clamp bearing and all. They still use them down south of here in the rice fieilds and a few strawberry growers use them to.

Ralph,

My disk bedder is as you describe. I believe it is an old JD based only on the paint, as there is no data plate. My tool bar is closer to 3" square and was originally 16'. I cut it in half and could use the other piece for something else in the future. I'll continue watching this thread to see what sources you come up with, as I might discover some more needs.
Seems like I've seen planter sections that mounted on similar toolbars, but my tractor wheelwidth wouldn't work with any row-width that I would want to use.

Thanks, guys.

Got on the Agri Supply web site and ordered a catalog. Nearest store is in Petersburg, about 2+ hours from here.

Checked Northern & Orscheln catalogs. No discs to mount on bars in them. Orscheln has KK stuff. That's all.

Ralph,

I did a bit more googling and came up with a couple of sites that might be of some help. The third one sells disk-hillers and clamps for various sizes of toolbar.

This site has a few options for a 2-1/4” solid toolbar:
http://www.transplanter.com/options.htm

These people offer several items including tool bar clamps:
http://www.bighambrothers.com/clamp.htm

This site advertises hilling disk on shank for different size toolbars, 2x2 up to 4x4, along with clamps:

Ralph, you may want to check out a dealer selling leinbach equipment. They have some ready made two disc bedders, and maybe you could buy the discs separately to clamp on. Here's a link to a Leinbach illustration, and some pictures that I had take of them in the past. John
