Does anyone have any recommendations for either the JD LX5 or the Woods BB60? They are both about the same price-wise ($1100). The Woods seems to have a better design.

I love my Deere cutter. But I tried an LX. They are very nice units. But the sideskirts are just to thin. Get the Wodds or an MX Deere and you will be glad you did...

Don't be afraid to shop around on the MX if that will work, I could have gotten the MX5 for $1100 last summer...

I'll echo Mike's comments. When I bought my MX6, the LX and MX units were side by each on the dealers lot. Big difference in beef. IMO I do think the LX's are a little pricey for what they are - OTOH I think the MX is price competitive with other brand units of equal beef and features. Make sure you compare apples to apples when you're checking pricing (slip clutch vs. shear pins, chains, laminated wheel(s) etc.,). Your 1070 should handle an MX5 or even an MX6 just fine, though you might need a little front end weight if you don't have a loader mounted.

Thanks for the feedback. When I was at the JD dealer they had a used LX5 with a bent front side panel. I also noticed that the rear wheel only had one center support insead of two as in the BB60. If I could get the MX5 for $1100 I would get that one in a minute. I did see a new MX5 for $1000 in Georgia in the classifieds on TBN here... a little far from Oregon.

The Woods BB60 is solid. It cuts everything I can drive through. My only complaint is the zerk fitting on the rear wheel was cross-threaded, and one of these days I'll need to do something about that.

You should be able to find a Woods BB60 for less than $1100. I paid $850 a year ago, although that was a package including the tractor, bought not far from you in Kelso, WA.

Can I ask where you bought a BB48 for $650? That sounds almost like dealer cost around here. I have just priced them this past week and the best I could find was $895 right now, in season $1021 or so. Some dealers were as high as $1100. A real steal for them.
