Just a thought that bounced through my air space - whew.
I noticed that the weight of the smallest Tajfun winch is over 500 lbs. More weight is better? Maybe not. Consider what your 3ph lift capacity is. Now consider the weight of the logs.
Not knockin it. I believe it is probably a good rig. Just another consideration.

To me a frame thats almost twice as heavy is a good thing, plus the auto band brake should be safer and easier to use and release.

Thanks for all the imput. I had not heard of the Tajfun but I have requested more info on them. Prices seem to be close to the Farmi so that probably will not be a factor. I do worry that since no local dealer handles them what about parts and support if needed? We have several dealers that handle Farmi.
The weight thing is not a big issue to me, the manual says my tractor rated at 1430lbs 24" from end of lift arms, both winches add less length than that.
And yes I have been warned about side pulls. My neighbor who has a Ford 4610(a 5000lb+ tractor) and a Farmi 601 has put it up on two wheels in the blink of an eye. Big or small you have to respect the equipment.
I will post back when I have one of them hooked to the back of the tractor.
Thanks
Dave

Sparkky I'm sure the Tajfan winches are good units. I prefer the brake on the Farmi. When it's engaged, it doesn't rely on friction material for holding power like a band brake. Band brakes eventually require relining. The brake on the Farmi should never require maintenance.

From what I understand the dog ear brakes can get stuck if you have a bind and you must move the tractor sometimes to release. Maybe someone that has used one can chime in.

Also the EGV 30A sales for $2195.00.

Also the safety screen, heavier cable, and the three sliders it comes with is a plus.

I suppose this could happen on the Farmi. Has never happened to me in about 7 years of use. I definately agree that the Farmi brake being positive engagement is safer. Farmi parts are very easy to get even though I've never needed any, my dealer stocks all wear parts. I called the distributor in New York and he told me that he could overnight any parts needed.

I have owned and operated a Farmi JL250, the 17-35 hp size. I purchased the winch new 30 years ago, it has been on two tractors. The clutch has been adjusted once and is in very good shape still.

The ratchet or dog style brake is very positive and to release it with a load against it you only have to slightly turn the drum and pull the release cable.

As far as the choice between the bigger and smaller one get the bigger winch if you are going to purchase a bigger tractor some day. Like others have said becareful to pull straight off the back and you can pull the front end off the ground in a heartbeat. Always watch the stem you are draging for
hang-ups and only use the tension necessary to pull the load that way when it hits an obstruction the clutch will slip and not pull the tractor over.
