Chain harrow or equivalent?
I have a JD 870 and a two acre pasture that needs maintenance. I've been thinking of getting a chain harrow to dethatch and spread horse manure. I know nearly nothing about them. On another thread someone made a reference to www.countrymfg.com. I wandered over to that website and found an adjustable tine harrow .
Is this device overkill for my application? If so, what kind (and what size) of chain harrow should I be looking for?

Re: Chain harrow or equivalent?
Matthew,
I use a 6' Fuerst tine harrow to smooth out manure and dethatch ~10-12 acres of horse pasture. It does a nice job spreading the manure out and the fields seem healthier afterwards. The biggest challenge for now is that I am pulling it with an ATV that gets quite hot pulling it. When the new tractor arrives, it will takeover the job.

I bought an 8' for $400 for dragging my paddock. It came from www.easterfarmmachinery.com

I wouldn't say you're overkill at all. Nice cheap implement with alot of uses.

Re: Chain harrow or equivalent?
It doesn't strike me as being quite as versatile as a drag harrow. How often do people use the smooth side of a drag harrow on a pasture or paddock?
