I know that the BCS has a standard PTO option (1 3/8") does anybody know the RPM and PTO horsepower of an 852? can i run a generator off it? how can i figure it out?

Check your manual for rpm at different throddle settings. What is the rpm requirement for the generator? Don't know for a fact, but suspect you might be able to hook up without requiring any reduction gearing/belts. The 12hp Kohler should handle a 2500kw-5000kw (possibly a bit more) with no problem. And a 2 wheel tractor would make a good power source for you. Earthtools used to sell a platform which hooked to the tractor for mounting stationary items such as pumps, generators, etc. However, I understand that they no longer sell it because of your legal system (liability issues).

Don't know how to move a thread from one forum to another, send a private message to one of the moderators.

PS why don't you post a pic of your setup when you get it working.

I've read in some of the Gravely forums (this is the main one: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/gravelyclub/messages) where they've had generators off the PTO. Not sure exactly how they did it. Think most used a pulley on the PTO and another pulley on the generatore, sized appropriately to get the right rpm, etc.

A 12 hp Kohler could power up to around 7-8 kw. There are no hydro losses to contend with on the 2 wheelers like BCS and Gravely.

If I were driving a generator with a BCS/Gravely, I'd want a generator with a meter that tells me the voltage and cycles output or maybe a tiny tach on the tractor. Need something to tell you what speed/cycles you're at.
