While "parked"off the tractor (JD4700) at the dealership, for a matter of some days, while other tractor preparation was being done, the backhoe (JD48) leaked-down, "relaxing" into a different posture than when first detached.

This resulted in an inability to hook-up the hydraulic lines needed to operate the controls and re-position it.

The shopman found some hydraulic-line "extensions", and was able to get the bh remounted.

I have not needed to remove it since, ...but look forward to doing so with some fear of being caught in the same situation at home (WITHOUT "extensions").

I'd appreciate hearing from others with ideas regarding this problem. My best idea so far is to make a rolling jig to hold the bh in the proper position regardless of the hyd. pressure situation, ...dismounting and mounting onto/from this jig.

But I'd feel better knowing that I could safely mount/dismount wherever I could find a reasonably level surface, with no "jig" needed.

Is this a common difficulty, or do I have a "leakdown" problem that needs attention?

My Kubota BH has a boom lock to hold it in position. Does the JD have a similar mechanism? After a small amount of leakdown, the mechanical lock holds it in position so it doesn't end up sprawled on the floor.

If that doesn't work, maybe you can block it or chain it somehow.

I'm still working (not very hard) on a way to hold up the stabilizers during storage. Someone posted a picture sometime back where they used cargo straps to tie them up. Seems like a reasonable solution.

I have experienced the same leakdown with my 48 hoe. As you know the manual tells you to curl the bucket such that the top edge is parallel to the ground before setting the backhoe on the ground. When the bucket cylinder leaks down it then tips the hoe away from the tractor so that it is very difficult to get the 3ph lift arms to engage the hooks on the hoe. In order to eliminate this problem I instead curl the bucket all the way up into the "park position" and set the hoe downs such that the bucket rests on a piece of 8x8 wood block. A cinder block would also work. I also have a 3' long piece of 2x10 that I place under the main part of the hoe frame. Be sure to place the transport lock pins in the boom lift and swing lock positions as well. In this configuration, since all of the cylinders are at the limit of their travel, the hoe does not leak down at all. I also made up a short chain with hooks on each end, which I connect between the stabilizers to hold them from leaking down. If you get the length just right the chain will have just enough slack to hook it up with the stabilizers in the full up position. Hope this helps.
