Bush Hog 84T

I noticed the Bush Hog SQ84T while evaluating my brush cutter options. Does anyone have any experience with this model?

I haven't heard anything about the SQ84. My brother in law has a SQ60. To me it looks light duty. Take a good long hard look at the new Woods line of rotary cutters. The pricing is pretty close and the Woods standard (light) duty looks MORE rugged than the Bush Hog SQ series. Essex's Equipment has them usually in stock. I got a quote on a Woods standard duty 72" for $995. Maybe some other can help out here, but I feel the weight of the cutter and the HP rating of the gear box on the cutter play a large role in my choice. What are you going to power an 84" cutter with?

I would be powering it with an L4610. Right now I am trying out an SQ720. It is working well enough, but the 84 would get the job done a bit faster and might make it easier to mow close to fences. I am looking closely at Bush hog and King Kutter as the local dealer (Bourbeau) carries these lines and I could roll them into the initial loan.

What is the listed HP range on the 84T? My brand X super HD 6 footer with slip clutch is rated for 40 to 70 (or was that 75) PTO Hp. As our L4610 models only put 39.5 HP out the PTO it isn't likely to over power the unit but is "close enough" to the low end of the envelope to not be too underpowered to get results. Mine's an HST so it is trivial to slow down as required when the going gets tough. Maybe I'm in the minority here but 7 ft is probably a stretch unless your cutting is usually pretty light. When I take on stuff at or above 2 in diameter it really loads up and I have to essentially stop and wait for the engine to recover RPM. Meanwhile for a bit, while chewing on the pieces it shakes the whole tractor/implement/driver combination pretty good and on occasion will throw a good size length of limb right out through the safety chains.

and why are you considering a "tow" unit versus a 3-pt?

Bush Hog rates the 84T minimum 25 PTO HP, that I find really hard to believe...
