Planters 3pt corn planter

I believe you can get a fertilizer box for the 71. I've seen 71's in a couple different configurations over the past couple of years. However whenever I've seen a cut down version (1 or 2 row planter) I have not seen a fertilizer box on it.

EDIT: According to my JD 71 Flexi-Planter Operator's Manual (Dealer Service Shop Copy, #OM-A41062 Issue C0) there are multiple attachments including: "Insecticide and/or Herbicide Attachment"; "Fertilizer Hopper"; and "Fertilizer Drive Wheel". The fertilizer box requires a seperate drive wheel that fits between the rows, the fertilizer hopper fits in front of the seed hoppers. The herbicide and insecticide hoppers can be used independantly or together and mount behind the seed hopper. Now the reason I think I have not seen any of these hoppers on the cut down units is because the fertilizer hopper is HUGE, and probably has more capacity than someone who uses a cut down 2 row planter would use. But that is just my guess.

I sold the 290, the fertilzer system was all but rotted out. I am sure it would have been nice /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif but for a ben franklin I didnt mind.

After I broadcast, I go over with a drag harrow to bury seed (no, I know its not very precise) broadcast fertilizer (if Peasants Forever hasn't run out of it) and run the pulveriser over.

Yes I am fertilizing the weeds also but for me its just a food plot.

I have not seen any 71 with fert boxes. I like the 71 for what I want to do. They are not the only answer. If your planter works for you then it is the right one. The guy I purchased mine from had many more planters ready for sale. I am putting down the fertilizer with an old manure spreader. I have composted sheep and horse manure to use so do not need fertilizer boxes on my planter. Others may have better information about fertilizer boxes on a 71, but I have not seen one.

#71 planters frequently did have fertilizer attachments. MOST were set up as multiple row units, and had liquid fert. set-ups. That is VERY simple to add to ANY planter. I am currently building a liquid tank and applicator system for mine. Details and photos later when I'm done! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a 1 row JD 7000 planter I built. It is 3 point and has the JD transmision and is ground driven. It is in very good shape. I need to sell it. What is it worth??
I bought a 4 row air planter so I have no need for it any more.

I have planted several different types of seed, does make a good stand. Pic's may be alittle dark, it is under a roof no sun gets to it.

Good afternoon. My first post.
Question. I recently purchased a JD Model 71 flexi-planter (made by Yetter years ago). How do you adjust the seed planting depth on this planter? There are two "t-type" handles attached to springs on the front of the planter that make an adjustment of some type but I've not yet figured it out. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Those "Tee handles" adjust the down pressure on the closer wheel (drive wheel) The depth is controlled with the 3-point hitch of the tractor OR with "depth bands". Those are small "wheels" if you will, that attach to the sides of the disc openers. They come in various diameters. They allow the disc opener to penetrate the soil only so far.

I'm currently making a set of "gauge wheels" from old cultivator gauge wheels to install on my 2-row planter. That way, I can just drop the planter and go. No need to worry about 3-point settings.
