I am thinking about attaching a multimount winch to my Kubota L3010.
I might weld a receiver hitch to a box scraper, or would a 3 point receiver be stronger. What about attaching the winch to the front of tractor?

troweller,

Do you expect the primary use for the winch to get the tractor out of trouble or is it to get stuff pulled towards the tractor?

Do you have a FEL on the front? I'm not very familiar with your particular model but if it has a plate on the front for mounting weights, that may be a good place if either you don't have a FEL or you can get the bucket above or below the line needed for the cable.

For the rear, I think it depends on what the needs are for the winch. If you're using the winch to drag things towards the tractor, mounting something to a box blade may be the way to go. Use the box blade as a skid plate so it can't move the tractor. If you're using the winch to get the tractor out of trouble, I would try to make something that's connected to the tractor since you may not have the box blade on the tractor when you get in trouble. A mount to the straight draw bar off the back would be a good spot.

How big of a winch are you considering?

Although made for UTV's, hunterworks.com and other places have 2" receiver multi-mount setups that will accept most major winches (up to 4000#).

I was going to use the winch to move things. I was thinking about getting a Warn winch, either a 8k or 9.5k, with the multi-mount cradle so that I could use it with my truck or trailer. My tractor has a FEL and there is not a weight mount up front. If I attached to the straight drawbar, should I get a second drawbar devoted to the winch? Or there are those 3 point receiver hitches.

OK, I have to ask, with a 9500# winch, you could pull anything you want to /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but what do you plan on pulling?
I ask because I have a Farmi logging winch on my tractor and even with the skid plate buried it can either drag my tractor around or lift the front end off the ground. Where I'm going with this has a lot to do with safety. Your mount will need to be pretty low to avoid any tipping and you'll need something (like the box blade) to avoid the tractor being dragged if you hook up to something heavy.

For that size winch, I don't think I'd want to connect it to the 3PH directly. Connected to a box blade that would be set/dug into the ground would provide more strength. Again, I'm not very familiar with the 3010 but with that size winch, I'm thinking the weak point would probably be where your lift arms are connected to the back of the tractor. Hate to see something snap in that area. As for the draw bar, you could probably use your existing if your mount setup slid over the bar and had a pin to drop through the bar.

Nothing is coming to mind right now for a mount for the front end. One option may be to leave the winch on the rear and have the cable come under the tractor and out the front. Some roller fairleads would be needed.

Now, I'll disqualify most everything I'm saying if you plan on pulling from much of an angle to the side of the tractor. A side pull can drag or flip a tractor pretty quickly. Be careful.

Also, do a search for winch or multi-mount on the forum. Skip the ones in the ATV forum as that's something different. We kicked this around a couple months ago and you may get more info.

troweller,

Does your tractor have the electrical capacity to work this winch? That would be the first question to answer in my view.

Remember that trucks are likely to have much higher capacity batteries and much larger alternators than even the heavy duty alternators available for smaller tractors.

You may have already checked into this, but if not, it is worth considering.

REAL GOOD POINT Henro !!! My warn 9.5TI is capable of drawing almost 500A at full pull.
A Hydraulic winch would be a better choice but then you can not swap between truck and tractor because of the two types of fluid.
An ATV winch would be a possible choice too, much smaller and lighter to move from front to rear. Plus they are all over ebay. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
