It seems I remember seeing someone ask a question about their compact tractor running a conventional square baler, but I can't seem to find the post.

I just saw this.. Ebay CUT baler...onEbay and thought there might be someone here interested.

Quaint looking little outfit, but I wonder how many are willing to plop down $12k for it...

Soon CUT balers will be available in the $7,000-8,000 range.

I've seen small round bailers that make a 40# bale for around $7K. That was a few years ago, so I expect they've gone up in price. One had an adjustment so you could trail it either to the side or directly behind the tractor and still pickup the windrow. I heard of a guy that had a truck load of the small round bales and ended up selling them for $20 each for Halloween. That's a helluva price for hay when you figure the guy was getting a $1,000 per ton. I guess some folks will pay through the nose for decorations.

Just remember that CUT's are not that much cheaper than 40 HP utility tractors. A square baler both small & large will have close to the same number of moving parts because they both are doing the same work. The difference is just less steel in the smaller baler. Knotters cost the same on both balers.

Is it just me or did they not want to cut this field. Look how high the grass is still.

If they would have used a CCM drum mower or disc mower it would have been cut a 2-3" height.

It still makes me wonder though, why cut and bale a field and leave over a foot of grass standing? I wonder if the baler has trouble handling too much hay or what is the reason?

That is an expensive little unit.
