I just installed and am tweaking my new tiller, trying to work the kinks out. This is my first rear PTO attachment. The PTO has a slipclutch - should the slipclutch end be attached to the tiller or the tractor, or does it even matter? Nothing in the manual about it.

Thanks much, -Norm

I think the slip clutch is usually nearer the tiller.

I would have expected the dealer to already have bolted the PTO shaft to the tiller. Ordinarily it's already in place, with the clutch component oriented toward the implement end. Standard practice is to simply connect/disconnect from the tractor end.

As per Bird. The slip clutch usually is splined and slips on the splined end of the rotatiller. There should be a spring loaded locking pin or collar to keep the slip clutch on the tiller splines.

Great, thanks guys. I bought the tiller off the web, it was delivered on a pallet with the PTO strapped to it. I had to cut the PTO down a few inches to the proper length. Either end of the PTO will connect to the tractor or the tiller but I'll be sure to use the clutch end on the tiller.
