I was lucky enough to get an old cole planter unit off of a 4 row that is being scraped. I got the 14ft solid diamond toolbar which I am going to cut into 2 five foot pieces and will have a 4 foot section left. I will have to get another 3 point hitch made up, but this will give me one toolbar for the planter and one extra for other goodies! Got a corn plate with the planter, but I was told that JD plates will work.also got the disc hillers and cultivator points, guide wheels, and brackets for it all! Also need a chain for the drive on the planter but I know where there is some of that. I don't know the model of this Cole planter but it looks similar to the MX planter they now make, but it is not quite the same. He told me that everyone around here had them at one time, but parts got hard to get and everyone bought JD planters with more rows. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm a Deere planter fanatic, but have a friend that uses Cole/Covington planters. (Model 400?) Unless you have a Cole planter unlike any I've ever seen, John Deere "type B plates" won't work. They're completely different.

Take one of your left-over 5ft square bars.. go to TSC & pick up 4 "S" tines.. they also have the "L" hardware brackets that attach the tines to a square bar.. if you can weld a 3pt hook-up for the bar.. you can easily make a cultivator to go w/ your one row planter.

I'm not sure of the model number. They are out of date, 4 row ,probably early 70s? There are two hoppers for it. A duplex hopper with two plates used mainly for peanuts I think, which takes the metal plates. Then there is the "edge drop hopper" which uses the lustran plates which are like the JD plates.

Is there any way you can get a picture of that planter? I have a friend that's quite the expert on Cole?Covington planters of old. He might be able to identify. If you need to, I'll send a personal message with my email addy, so you could send pictures to me.

You have me wondering what you have...... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'll try to get a pic for it. I'll have to use my step daughters camera, so it may take a few days, but I will post it.
Thanks
