Placed my order today and would like to confirm since you guys know way better than me. I think I need to backhoe buckets on my ck30hst. What two sizes?
12 and 24?

Just need some of your experianced advise.

General use stumps, cleaning out pond digging lateral lines etc.

12 and 24 sounds pretty good. 12 is about as small as is really useful in most cases and 24 is a large bucket for that size machine. I doubt you'd use a larger one very often and they are very heavy even without any dirt in them.

If you do a search on backhoe bucket and size I think you will find some long conversations on the topic.

I bought 10" and 16" buckets for mine, but now wish I had went with 12" and 24"...

Today 12" & 24" would be my choice... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I ordered mine with a 12 & 24". I ordered the Woods hoe for better clearence. Won't be here till 4-15-05 so can't report on performance. I was thinking using the 24 for grading, ditch maint, not heavy digging. Dealer gave choice of buckets so the 24 is included and bought the 12 for $ 420. Kioti buckets are much cheaper.

I agree with Henro, 12" and 24" if I were to buy two. I recently went with a 12" only. Anything smaller can sometimes be difficult to empty. I considered a 24" for mucking my pond, and other slop work, but decided to wait on the 24" untill I have a need that justifies the expense. My pond is ~1/2 acre and 8' deep. I'll likely drain it this summer, let it dry some and muck it out with the FEL. After I get stuck, it prolly won't much matter which size bucket I have on the BH when I try to pull myself out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For those members w/ multiple buckets, what percentage of your work is done with the larger bucket?

Small bucket for stumps, say 12" and I'd check on the match between your hoe and 24" first. . That's a big bucket for CUT hoe and could have difficulty in stiff dirt. I have 12 and 18" for my 9' class hoe.

I have a 12" and 16" and find them both adequate. I like to trench with the 12" which gives me room to work in the hole.
I dig stumps with both and find the 12" better at times for breaking some roots as the 16" tends to grab too much and have a lot of resistance. For your purposes though I'd say 12" and 18".
I don't think I'd go 24" as I just don't think you'll use it all that much for general jobs, and the 12" may be way too small for many of the other jobs.
I like the weight of a smaller bucket on your hoe. John

12" is a good choice, but the 24 is on the large side, atleast for my area of the country( very rocky). What type of soil and digging are you looking to do? 24" might work for sandy soil, mucking a pond. But i would drop to a max of 18" in my opinion.

You know, my dealer is gonna shoot me. I just asked him to re-inforce the FEL bucket and add hooks. Now, it looks like the 24" may be to big, cuz rocks we have.. Course, I wanted to clean the pond too... Now I'm unsure...

I have a 12 inch and sometimes wish for a 24 inch also.

So my choices would be a 12" & 24" bucket.
