When I put my JD 420 loader up for the winter I made the mistake of not reducing the preasure in the hyd. lines before I disconnected them. Now there is too much pres. on the loader side to reconnect them .Question is , Is there a better way other than just loosening couplings (and probably spraying oil everywhere). learned my lesson either way

CrACKING THE LINES SEEMS THE EASIEST.. JUST PROP UP THE BUCKET WITH A JACK SO LOTS OF OIL DOSN'T COME OUT?

oops.. sorry for the caps

I don't know whether your couplers on the loader side are male or female, but I just wrap an old rag around them to prevent any oil from squirting out, then one sharp rap with a hammer or mallet on the ball in the end if it's a male coupler, or do the same with a drift pin into the coupler if it's a female coupler. So far that's always worked quickly and easily for me.

I wrap a rag around, but don't 'hit' the ball with anything. I just hold the hose and press the wrapped ball against the frame. The oil pressure will be relieved.

I don't 'rap' or 'hit' because I think I might damage the ball.

I was in the same position, except it was only a couple of hours. There were two couplers that I couldn't connect, one I was able to pust the nipple in and release some pressure. Then it I was able to connect it, the other wouldn't budge. I followed the hose to a junction, and cracked open the fitting.

One other possibility. On my power beyond port it seems I cannot disconnect or connect it while the tractor is running. It's in a really tight spot, so it may be me, but I find shutting of the tractor makes it much easier to do this.

I did the same thing...didn't relieve enough pressure when I removed FEL for the winter. Used the above technique last week when I re-attached the FEL. Took a lot of pressure against the frame, on each connector but, it did relieve enough fluid to make the connections. As I recall though, I did have to take a plastic mallet to one of them...just tapped it through the wrap of rag. Do be careful not to get splattered!

Not sure about your power beyond but mine is set up so that there is oil flowing through it all the time the engine is on. If you disconnect it while the pump us running, that's like blocking the flow of oil, so the pump will develop full relief pressure. Not surprised you can't reconnect without shutting off. (Plus not good for your pump!)

This is power beyond - not remote ports. Remotes don't have flow until the valve is opened.
