Hillbilly... I was thinking of you and your 513 when I took those pictures. I'm ready to upgrade and here's a Woods BrushBull I'm considering...

Looks good,
I may consider one of those next year.
John,do you have a dealership? I was wondering where the pictures of all the damaged 513's were taken at.

No Hillbilly, I don't have a dealership... I'm laughing because I was trying out my el cheapo $49. digital camera and I saw this 513 trade-in at a John Deere dealer's lot.

I go to a number of Ag/farm/tractor auctions... and I've loved/used these tireless workers all my life... does that count? /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

So Hillbilly... which new 4000 Series 10 tractor and what options are your buying? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

John,

You and your "cheapo $49" camera are at least doing a better job of advertising the BrushBull than the Woods web site is - looks like they don't have anything on it yet. I like the quality of the Woods products, but their website isn't kept up real well.

I am waiting to see if they come out with a 513-10 series rotary cutter.LOL. I do not know what I will do,as long as the JD 4400 I have holds together I might hang on to it,I would not mind going up to a 5000 series sometime. I have more ideas than money,I have a boy a year away from college.Know what I mean?

My gut feeling tells me that may be for a good reason... dealers have more inventory of the "older-replaced" models that must be sold... {also maybe the same case in Woods own warehouses?...}

John,

Luv those pictures!

If you need an endorsement of the Woods cutters, I have about 30 hours on a Brush Bull 600 this summer. All I can say is that it hasn't met a tree it didn't like! If it can be pushed over, it's a gonner! Even with a "little" tractor (3410 HST) it works great. It only has 2 small dents in the deck from rock "explosions" and the usual scratches in the paint. One mean machine.

In your picture of the 720; it didn't have the shielding or the chains. If you haven't seen it, the standard metal shield is either 1/8 or 3/16 thick steel. Tough stuff, but more easily damaged than chains.

I don't know if it's better or worse than any other medium duty cutter, but I do like it a lot so far!

Re: Rotary Cutters........John Bud

John,

Awhile back I looked at the Woods 600 and the Bush Hog 285. One big diffference I noticed (according to the spec sheets) was the difference in weight between the two units. The Woods weighed in at about 1039# and the Bush Hog 765#. Out of curiosity, I wrote Deere and asked them their opinion on which unit (no names mentioned, just referenced the weight) would be better to run on my 1070. Their reply was that the 1070 was a light framed tractor and they suggested I go with the lighter unit. So I'm curious, how does your tractor handle the weight of the Woods 600?

Re: Rotary Cutters........John Bud

Russ,

The tractor seems to handle it with no problem.

The loader is always attached while cutting to check for hidden stumps, rocks and down trees while going forward so the machine is pretty balanced. Going backwards seems to work best for cutting larger brush and trees up to 2". I am the cautious type, so I go slow and try and walk the area to be cut before hand to keep the contact with stumps and rocks to a minimum.

The weight might be an issue if I didn't have the loader on (or front weights). But while cutting, a bunch of the weight is on the ground via the rear wheel. As far as power, the Kubota seems to have enough for what I have been cutting!

Re: Rotary Cutters........John Bud

I don't know what Deere meant about a 1070 being a "light framed" tractor. What were they comparing it against?

According to the 1070 operator's manual the 1070 3PH is rated to lift 2020 pounds 24 inches behind the lift arm ends. I don't think it should have a problem with the Woods cutter.
