( To me the seed looks like a small to medium sunflower seed. I've ordered a manual, but it's going to take a while. Also, could youexplain the seed plate part numbers. I have a coulpe plates already. b10-24 and b1-24x )
The "B" represents the "Type B" John Deere plate. The first number is representative of the size seed opening. They aren't in a certain order. (B2 isn't always bigger or smaller than say B5..... ) The last number is the amount of "cells" or openings per plate. The more cells, the more seed drops per revolution.
Corn (with the exception of popcorn) and soybeans need nothing further than the plate. Some odd sized seeds such as sunflowers, Milo, peas, peanuts, cotton, ect... need "false rings" to hold the plate in a proper alignment.
I'd still suggest downloading Lincolnn Ag's information on the type B plate. It explains much of what I've just touched upon.
GREAT planter, just takes a bit to learn your way around its workings....
