I don't have the info with me, it's at home and I'm at work until this evening. BUT... If you REALLY want to know, Do a search for "Lincoln Ag". They sell "Lustran" plates. (plastic) Their web-site will list the sunflower seedplates. There are several, if I remember correctly. You will need to know the size of the seed. (Same species MAY have seeds of varying size)

If you don't have any luck there, send me a PM, and I'll hunt up the info when I get home tonight.

Good Luck,
Bill

According to my JD71 operators manual, for large sunflower seed you need seed plate #1239B and you need a false ring or floor plate as well. The numbers for those are Y2630B and H1346B for the JD parts.

Lincoln Ag does sell these, that is where I bought mine from, I'm not sure if they use the same #s.

By the way, there is a guy who sells manuals on Ebay for the 71 Flexi Planter. Well worth the few dollars I invested.

To me the seed looks like a small to medium sunflower seed. I've ordered a manual, but it's going to take a while. Also, could youexplain the seed plate part numbers. I have a coulpe plates already. b10-24 and b1-24x

The "B" represents the "Type B" John Deere plate. The first number is representative of the size seed opening. They aren't in a certain order. (B2 isn't always bigger or smaller than say B5..... ) The last number is the amount of "cells" or openings per plate. The more cells, the more seed drops per revolution.

Corn (with the exception of popcorn) and soybeans need nothing further than the plate. Some odd sized seeds such as sunflowers, Milo, peas, peanuts, cotton, ect... need "false rings" to hold the plate in a proper alignment.

I'd still suggest downloading Lincolnn Ag's information on the type B plate. It explains much of what I've just touched upon.

GREAT planter, just takes a bit to learn your way around its workings....

Further comment.... The Deere part #'s will usually start with an "H". The Lustran Numbers all begin with a "B". They will cross from one to another, but their numbers are completely different.

I needed plates for planting peredovic sunflowers. I called Linclon Ag Products and the girl there said that they have a certain plate that is used for peredovic sunflowers. I can't recall the plate numbers and I don't have them here at home. However they worked fine and I had a great 3 acre field of sunflowers AND ragweed. I sprayed the field prior to planting with Prowl, and later realized it wouldn't prevent ragweeds. It was so overtaken with ragweed that the doves never found the falling seed. I added Spartan to the Prowl when I sprayed a couple of weekends ago prior to planting. Maybe this Sept. I'll have a good dove shoot. We'll see.
