I have a 105gal Hardy sprayer w/ 28' booms. I have approx 25 acres of wildlife food plots. My spraying has been limited to Roundup and Poast (not at the same time!!) so far.

My problem is that I have trouble telling where my line of spray ends when I come by on the next pass. The idea is obviously not to overlap sprayed ground any more than is necessary but I've found that I either overlap alot or sometimes miss a strip ... because I can't tell where my edge is.

Someone told me they make a hang-on cannister of some kind that drips foam dots so you can see your line, but the local tractor supply place had no idea what I was talking about.

Any experieced advice would be appreciated!!

Agri-Supply sells several different brands. They are not cheap with the least expensive setup being $289.

Look at page 14 of the catalog.

You can use the foam markers as mentioned. They're pricey. The one mentioned in the above reply is abnormally cheap. I've been looking at it with great interest myself. With the cost of the foam applicator, you have to by the foam product too. Some foam marker set-ups are routinely priced at over $750 for the complete kit. A problem with foam markers can be seeing the foam itself. There is irridescent dye that can be added to it (in several colors) to make it easier to spot.

Another (FAR LESS COSTLY) method is the use of "marker dye" directly in your sprayer tank. It's commonly used on golf courses when spraying greens, faiways, and roughs. It can be a number of colors also (blue, green, yellow, ect...)

I use that sort of product when spraying some of my cropland. It's relatively inexpensive. (Pint usually will cost around $15) A pint bottle will mix hundreds of gallons of tankmix. It's easy to see, takes just a few days to "go away" and is harmless to turf or crops.

It is available at TSC, and most any good farm supply store.

When you spray, it literally "paints" the area where you have sprayed.

That's a good idea Indy, I may have to look into that for my own food plots.

Great idea. Actually the same page that Mad recommended, is where I found what you're talking about. It's called Hi-Light and cost $45 for a gallon (128oz). They recommend 10-15oz, depending on height of vegetation, per 100gal of spray. That's like $5 a tank ... not bad ... especially if it works!

Thanks for the help. I ordered a gallon and will get it in with my Roundup next week.

I forgot to add.... When you use the dye mixed with the tankmix, it will show you the spray pattern that your sprayer is laying down. It will show you skips, and/or uneven spray patterns.

Highlighter is great stuff! I use it in my Hardi sprayer, both for boom work and with the handgun. When using a backpack sprayer where I can't get with the tractor, I am usually spraying poison oak or blackberry. The tracer keeps me from killing stuff the wife wants to save! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Forgot to mention: The tracer is also a good indicator that you have cleaned the sprayer well. If you see color in your rinse water you can bet the chemical is also still there.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I just bought a 25 gallon Fimco sprayer that will be used to fertilize my my lawn and hopefully keep the weeds out also. I haven't used it yet but I have read the manual and it says to rinse the sprayer with neutralizing agent after use. It specifically mentioned a product called Nutra-Sol. Earlier this week I called TSC to see if they had it in stock but they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. Either they don't carry it or the person that I spoke with was not aware of the product. Two questions..

Where can you buy this stuff?
Are there any "home brews" that can be used as a neutralizing agent?

They might be a good idea but I do a lot of spraying and have never used a neutralizing agent. I just rinse the tank really well. Never had any problems.
