I have a 6' Bushhog Squealer that the top is rusted out. A trusted welder told me he didn't think the unit could be repaired at a reasonable cost. With that being the case I don't want it just laying around the farm. The gear box, rear wheel etc are in good shape. What could I get for the thing or should I just give it away? Thanks!

If the gear box and rear wheel are in good shape as you say, don't give it away, sell it for $50. Someone will give it to you. Put it where someone driving by can see it, with a sign for $75 on it and then come down to the $50.
You'd be surprised what someone who already knows how to weld, and has some extra plate lying around can do with a cutter like that.
My good friend just repaired his 30 year old, rusted out topped cutter for about $50.

Definitely part it out. Does it have a stump jumper? I have seen those get warped before and new ones are NOT cheap. The gear box alone is worth the $75 mentioned I would think. Does the PTO shaft have a clutch on it or a shear pin? You have a lot of good parts there that someone will pay good money for. I had to put an output shaft in my 6ft squealer and seems like it was $50 bucks. If the gearbox doesn't leak and not much play in the gears, I say stick a sign on it and see what happens.
