I got this from a friend of mine that needs to get some screws for his baler.

Anyone know of a way to get these little screws from another source? Any help appreciated. It's baling season!!

He sent this to NH.

I need 8 "Little" screws for my New Holland Super 66 baler, the screw part number is # 87046

Now these screws are only 1/4" x 3/4" long and when my local dealer attempted to order them they were told that the cost is over $12. EACH !!!! and that is without nuts and washers. Now I can understand $1.20 each, or $12. for a pack of 8, but $96 for 8 little screws?
Please help me, I need these for my baler, because we ordered from you the 2 wood strips that these screws hold on, and as you know it is now hay season.

Are these machine screws? Is there anything special about the scews?, extra hard, special head, etc. ? If not, determine the size and thread gauge and go to a Bolt & Nut supply centre for a match.

On the oher hand I had to replace the centre bolt for the rear axle mount on my F2400 the other day and it required a specially hardened bolt 17mm by 450mm. That one bolt at the dealer's cost C$62!!! Ouch. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

He doesn't live very close so I can't get over there to take a picture.

I've asked him to provide answers to your questions.

Below is the last message I received from him. Can you advise?

Brian

The problem is these are special heads that fit the recess in the wood wear parts.
What do you think about this:
Put a small amount of wood filler into each hole, put a screw that is close to having the same head though and tighten up the parts and use Loctite on the threads to keep the nuts from backing off. Wood filler is pretty tough, and I think this will fill in any cavities between the screw head and wood.

Without looking at them I can't really give much advice... Expounding on his idea, Use epoxy to fill em... It should outlast the wood.

A picture would be a great help. If we knew what it looked like we could probably give you some advice. I still bet something very close could be found at McMaster-Carr.

Thanks everyone.

He just found what he needs at McMaster. The "Undercut" head is what was unique and what he needed.

Here's a link to the one he needed.

I still wonder why NH needs $12 for each of these. McMaster sells 50 of them for $7.63
