Here are some photos of the King Kutter 6' box blade I picked up this weekend. Hinged back, 3/8" endplates, quick hitch compatible, etc.

This is their hinged back "heavy duty" box blade shown here -

King Kutter Incorporated

I'm not sure why there are so many complaints about the KK stuff. I looked at a few blades before I got this one. It's appears to be built at least as well if not better than the Woods and Land pride boxes I saw at local dealers and it's not nearly as expensive. It's substantially more heavy duty than the Worksaver and the Chinese off brand blades I looked at. My Harbor Freight quick hitch even mates right up with it.

This blade sells for $699 at TSC but I got mine for $482 at Farm and Fleet. It was a special order there and I have to wonder if they messed up the price. But, I asked them the price twice before they ordered it. So good enough for me... ;)

JSharpe:

Your KK HD box blade is one of the better built products of the KK line. A lot of the KK products are not as well made. Jay

I suppose that's right. I looked at their lower end models and they didn't look too good. Similar to all the cheap Chinese brands.

I also have a KK 7' open rear blade and it's also built well. But, it's their HD model that tilts, adjusts side to side etc. It was $150+ more than their low end blades and it's probably 4X as well made...

I think many times people see the crappy paint job and rust from all the scratches the implments gets during handling, and conclude it is overall poor quality construction. With the tillers and box blades, I believe they are good quality. I have a 6' rake I also think is good quality, but the guage wheels are more along the lines of "you get what you pay for".

Recently the local TSC had a 5' heavy duty hinged tagged at $429, the same price as the light duty with the fixed rear blade. I'm pretty sure it was priced wrong. I almost picked it up, but really wanted a 54".

great, ever-green thread:)

These are the box blades that TSC are selling up in my area-UP of Michigan

American Farmland - 5 ft. Box Blade - By Tarter Gate

A 5 ft one sells for $429. They are much the same as the KK they use to sell.

I can order the 5 ft KK HD (520 lbs) with hinged back for $629 but I am afraid my 30 HP Kubota B7800 might not have enough weight to pull it effectively so I am inclined to buy the 442 lb Farm Force one.

Any comments/suggestions?

I've read through this whole thread and didn't see pictures of a "Land Master" - maybe they go by other names too? I didn't do any research ahead of time - my bad! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves but let me add a couple of caveats:
- Probably somewhere between 20-30 hours on it.
- I think the "wear and tear" is cumulative - at least I don't recall any single event of abuse (stump, big rock, etc).
- Still trying to decide whether it is worth trying to have it fixed or buying a welder or just calling it a wash - pretty flimsy as it sits now.
My first attempt posting pictures here so please let me know if I exceed image size or posting limits.

The paint is certainly horrible and the handling doesn't help. I could see the recent scratches on mine that had obviously been put there when they unloaded it from the truck.

I called KK about it and of course they said that it was typical. But, they also said it was standard Caterpillar yellow so it shouldn't be too hard to touch up.

Something else to touch up with my cheapie HF touch up gun I suppose...

looks like it is made of pretty thin metal

The center beam/tube where it is rippin is just under 3/16". The endplates are 1/4"
