The 330$ is the price from the CNH dealer for that 12" long stubby pto shaft that I will have to swap out.

I did not that the same shaft is used int he 5610s, 6610s, and the 7610s, but is different than the shaft used in the 7610.

Any ideas for online parts source for my 7610s ? Paying 100$ vs 330$ would be real nice..

To the other poster: The conversion shaft is nothing more than snapping a retianing ring out... pull old shaft.. insert new shaft.. pop ring back in.. 5 minute job the first time I'm told.. and a 1 minute job once I've done it a few times.

I'd prefer to have this in 6spline 540rpm pto.. but have been told that 1000 is actually better for the big stuff

FWIW, I run my Rhino with the PTO at 540. Which on my model gives a faster blade tip speed than at 1000.

I see where the Rhino specs say a 50 hp tractor will pull it. Don't fall for that - it's pure adspeak aka b.s.

I think I got it from Worthington Ag Parts online. I've bought other items from them such as stabilizer chains, drawbar and external hyd. pump for my 7610. If it wasn't from Worthington I got it on Ebay.

Gabby, people do pull them with 50hp, even less. They clip pasture weeds in spring before grass gets going. The neighbor borrowed my 50hp tractor for clipping with 15 footer last spring while his 4000 was broke down. You'd need more hp for all out mowing, but not many people with enough land to justify a 15' cutter use them to mow. They use moco or disc mower (and baler).

Are you talking about mowing hay? That's a whole 'nother subject. You'd be nuts to cut hay with a bat wing regardless of how big your tractor is. I'm talking about mowing pastures with bahia grass and thick bottomland grass.

I'm talking about the main use of 15 footers in this area isn't for mowing(I'd call that 4" or less) but skimming top of pasture for early weeds that pop up before hay season. They don't see much use after that as it's time for hay cutters. It doesn't take much hp to clip the top.
The road crews and right of way maintainers, on the other hand all use 100+hp with 15' cutter, as most all of our roadsides are bahia. It's tough stuff.

Hey Soundguy,

If we were in the same town, I'd challenge you to a duel! Me and my 7610 + 10' flat deck mower vs. you and your 7610s and 15' batwing. Serious bahia grass pasture. Case of cold ones to the guy that covers the most acreage in an hour!! Another case of cold ones for the cleanest cut!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I read an interesting article today on a 1970's model Minneapolis Moline tractor. It was 97 HP. MM recomended pulling a 5 bottom, 16" plow, at 6 MPH. That combination would plow just shy of 40 acres in an 8 hour day. Some "old timers" would try a 7 bottom plow ay 4 MPH (With LOTS of ballast added) That combo would do 38 acres in the same time.

End result, the tractor pulling the 7 bottom plow would suffer major drivetrain failure MUCH sooner than any pulling the 5 bottom's.....

Now I understand a plow is a TOTALLY different concept than a mower, but lessons learned from one application can be applied to another.

I'd opt for a slightly smaller mower at a slightly higher speed, over loading it to it's maximum capacity.

But that's just me and my $.02 worth......
